To resolve this, turn off and unplug all electrical devices, then turn off the generator. Wait a few minutes, restart the generator, and try connecting only a few electrical loads. Also, a short circuit in one of the devices may be the cause, so try disconnecting any potentially faulty electrical loads. Another possible reason is a dirty air filter. In this case, clean or replace the air filter element.

Make sure the engine has enough fuel and that the fuel isn't contaminated or old; if it is, drain and replace it with fresh fuel. A dirty or broken spark plug could also be the problem, so clean or replace it as needed. Finally, check the oil level, as the generator has a low oil sensor that prevents it from starting if the level is insufficient. Also, the carburetor may be air locked. To fix it, shut off the fuel valve, remove the nut from the bottom of the carburetor, take off the carburetor to allow it to reset, place the carburetor back and reinstall the nut.

  When a WEN Portable Generator engine is “hunting” during operation (with fluctuating RPM), it could be due to several reasons. First, the fuel may not be running properly through the fuel valve. Second, the air filter may be clogged. Third, the muffler or spark arrestor may be blocked. Fourth, there might be gunk in the carburetor, preventing a consistent fuel/air mixture. To address this, turn off the generator and allow it to cool down. Check the fuel valve, clean or replace the air filter if blocked, clean the spark arrestor with a metal brush if necessary, and use "Gunk remover" spray on the carburetor jets.
