2.2 How the VES-A10-P works
An air sampling pipe network collects samples from the protected area. The integrated aspirator draws air into
the sampling pipe(s).
The air from each sampling pipe passes through a valve and an air flow sensor and a sample of the air is then
drawn into the smoke detection chamber via the sampling module, after first passing through the replaceable
filter.
A further filter provides filtered clean air to protect the optical surfaces inside the detection chamber from
contamination.
The detection chamber uses a short wavelength laser light source in conjunction with photodiodes and
advanced imaging technology to achieve optimum response to a wide range of smoke types.
The VES-A10-P draws air from all sectors in use. If the smoke level reaches the Adaptive Scan Threshold,
the VES-A10-P quickly scans each sector to identify which sector is carrying smoke. The Adaptive Scan
Threshold starts at one quarter of the lowest Alert threshold and self-adjusts to minimize unnecessary scans if
they occur.
Once this fast initial scan is completed the VES-A10-P continues to monitor all four sectors. The sector with
the highest smoke during the initial scan is preferentially scanned so as to provide the fastest response.
