Emergency Starting Engine
1) Remove the top cowling.
2) Remove the flywheel cover upward.
3) Prepare to start the engine. Refer to
“STARTING ENGINE” for details. Be
sure the engine is in Neutral and that
the lanyard is attached to the engine
stop lanyard switch. The main switch
must be “ON”.
4) Insert the knotted end of the emer-
gency starter rope into the notch in
the flywheel rotor and wind the rope
approximately one turn clockwise.
5) Pull the rope slowly until resistance
due to compression can be felt.
6) Re-insert the knotted end of the emer-
gency rope at approximately the 7 or
8 o’clock position. Then wind the rope
clockwise around the flywheel rotor
approximately three quarters of a
turn.
7) Give a strong, sharp pull straight out
to crank and start the engine. Repeat
if necessary.
NOTE:
8 Starting this engine with the emergency
rope requires both strength and skill,
and may be difficult to accomplish suc-
cessfully.
8 Refer to “ENGINE FAILS TO OPERATE”
for cold engine starting procedures.
