1. Inspect your pump. Occasionally, products are damaged during shipment. If the unit or any of the parts are damaged, contact your dealer
before using.
2. Read all the installation instructions regarding installing and start up. Retain for future reference.
1. Make sure there is a properly grounded 115V receptacle avail-
able. Do not use primary pump circuit. The location must be within
6' of the control box and battery. The power supply for your DC
control system plugs directly into the 115V outlet. DO NOT USE
AN EXTENSION CORD.
2. Make sure the 115V electrical supply circuit is equipped
with fuses or circuit breakers of proper capacity.
3. DC emergency pumps are designed for handling clear water. Do
not use in septic tanks to pump efuent or sewage pits to pump
sewage.
4. Repair and service of your DC backup system should be performed
by an authorized service station.
5. The installation of DC automatic backup pumps requires the use
of a variable level oat switch for operation. It is the responsibility
of the installing party, to ensure that the tethered oat switch will
not hang up on the pump apparatus or pit peculiarities and is
secured so the pump will turn “on” and “off”. It is recommended
that the pit be 18" in diameter or larger to accommodate both a
primary and a DC backup pump.
SEE BELOW FOR LIST OF WARNINGS
1. Testing for Ground. As a safety measure each electrical outlet
should be checked for ground using an Underwriters Laboratory
listed circuit analyzer, which will indicate if the power, neutral and
ground wires are correctly connected to your outlet. If they are
not, call a qualied licensed electrician.
2. For your protection always disconnect the power supply from
its power source before handling the components of your DC
backup pump or the primary pump.
3. Installation and checking of electrical circuits and hardware should
be performed by a qualied, licensed electrician.
4. All electrical and safety codes must be followed in addition to
the National Electrical Code and all applicable local codes.
5. It is the owners responsibility to check the battery and
battery connection at least once a month. Batteries
contain acid and caution must be taken when handling.
6. Risk of electric shock - These pumps have not been investigated
for use in swimming pool areas.

What to do if Zoeller Water Pump operates but delivers little or no water?
    • J
      Jennifer SteeleNov 21, 2025
If your Zoeller Water Pump is running but not pumping water, several issues could be the cause. Start by checking for debris around the intake and clean it if necessary. Also, inspect the discharge pipe for any blockages and flush them out. Ensure the battery voltage is adequate, replacing or recharging the battery if needed. A blown fuse or open circuit could also be the culprit, so have an electrician check the circuit. Other potential causes include incorrect float adjustment (refer to STEP 2), the pump being air-locked (drill a ¼” hole in the discharge pipe below the waterline), vertical lift being too high (change discharge piping), a loose or corroded base plate (remove pump and tighten), the pump running in reverse (check red(+) and black(-) leads), or a damaged impeller (contact fa...

What to do if green & yellow lights flash intermittently on Zoeller AQUANOT 585 (Model 585)?
    • T
      Tyler LozanoAug 26, 2025
If the green and yellow lights on your Zoeller Water Pump (Model 585) are flashing intermittently, it could mean a few things. First, check that the positive (red) and negative (black) battery leads are connected to the correct terminals. It could also indicate that the battery requires maintenance, so check the water level and refill as needed, being careful not to overfill. A defective battery, a 'dead short' in the battery (meaning it can no longer store electricity), loose battery connections, or corroded battery terminals could also be the cause. Replace the battery if necessary, tighten the battery leads, and clean the terminals, applying grease to prevent future corrosion.

What to do if Zoeller AQUANOT 585 Water Pump will not shut off?
    • L
      Lisa NortonAug 27, 2025
If your Zoeller Water Pump keeps running, there are a few things to investigate. First, check if the float is obstructed and correct the problem. Also, the float 'Off' point might be adjusted too low, so adjust it (refer to STEP 2). If neither of those is the issue, the float switch might be faulty, in which case you should contact the factory.

Why is the red light out on my Zoeller AQUANOT 585 Water Pump charger (Model 585)?
    • W
      Wanda MannAug 27, 2025
If the red light on your Zoeller Water Pump charger (Model 585) is off, it could be due to a power outage, which is a normal condition and the light should come back on when power is restored. It could also indicate a blown AC line fuse, which a qualified electrician should replace. Alternatively, the controller could be defective, or the light itself might have burned out, in which case you should contact the factory. Finally, it could be due to no AC power and a battery voltage less than 5V, which means the battery has been depleted due to prolonged operation without AC power; in that case, call for service or replace the battery.

Why do I smell rotten eggs near my Zoeller Water Pump?
    • A
      April GraySep 16, 2025
If you notice a rotten egg smell in your basement, it could be due to the charger overcharging the battery of your Zoeller Water Pump. Have the battery inspected, as the charger will overcharge a battery with a defective cell.

      browngeraldSep 18, 2025
If you're constantly adding distilled water to the battery of your Zoeller Water Pump, it could be due to a defective battery. Have the battery inspected, as the charger will overcharge a battery with a defective cell. It could also be due to a defective controller, in which case you should contact the factory.

Why my Zoeller AQUANOT 585 Water Pump will not start?
    • K
      Kevin HubbardSep 6, 2025
If your Zoeller Water Pump isn't starting or running, several issues could be the cause. It might be due to low voltage, a blown fuse, or an open circuit, in which case you should have a qualified electrician check the fuse and circuit. Another cause could be an impeller bound. Also, a pump fuse might be blown. In case of defective switch you should contact factory. Finally, the motor or wiring could be shorted.

Why is green light out on Zoeller Water Pump?
    • M
      Matthew WilsonSep 4, 2025
If the green light is out on your Zoeller Water Pump, it could mean that the battery voltage has dropped below 12V due to normal operation. The light should illuminate once AC power is restored and the battery is charged. Alternatively, the light itself may be defective, in which case you should contact the factory.
