PoECongurationOverview
PoweroverEthernet(PoE)isanextendedfeaturethatsupportsnetworkdeviceswith
Ethernetelectricalports.Thenetworkdevices(switchesorrouters)supportingthePoE
functioncanprovidepowersupplythroughTwistedPairforremotePoweredDevices
(PD)ssuchasIPphones,WLANAccessPoints(APs),ornetworkcameras,which
realizesremotepowersupply.
Ethernetremotepowersupplysometimesisnamedasnetworkpowersupply.Itisatype
oftechnologythatdeliversalittleelectricityandprovidespowersupplythrough10BASE-T
and100BASE-TX.WhenthecurrentEthernetCat.5cablingbasicstructureisnotchanged,
PoEcanprovideDCpowersupplyforIP-baseddevices(suchasIPphones,WLANAPs,
ornetworkcameras)whenitsdatasignalsaretransmitted.PoEtechnologycanreduce
thecostmostlywhenthecurrentstructuralcablingsecurityisensured.Figure5-1shows
