Creating Signals
Use with an external frame sync
Selecting the Use External Frame Sync field, see Figure 29, sets up the waveform
to trigger from an externally-supplied signal that is applied to the pattern trigger In
connector on the ESG’s rear panel. The waveform sequence will trigger after it detects
a change in TTL state from low to high at the Pattern Trigger In connector. The trigger
signal can come from a function generator, or any other source that can produce a
repetitive TTL signal at the Bluetooth frame rate. The frame rate varies according to the
packet type selected.
A delay time may be entered in the Sync to Packet Delay field, which is the time from an
external frame trigger signal to the first symbol, p
o
, of the Bluetooth packet. The valid
range of values that may be entered for the Sync to Packet Delay is as follows:
DH1 packets: ± 1754 ms
DH3 packets: ± 5504 ms
DH5 packets: ± 9254 ms
Figure 30 shows the timing relationship of a DH1 packet sequence relative to an external
frame clock signal.

NOTE: The additional signals, illustrated with dotted arrows, the ESG receives during the playback
of the dirty transmitter test sequence is ignored. When the playback of the sequence is completed,
then the next trigger signal will start the playback of the next sequence.
