Overview

This document describes the Ariazone 901 Automotive Air-Conditioning Service Equipment, a user-friendly tool designed for automotive air-conditioning technicians.

Function Description

The Ariazone 901 is a comprehensive A/C service station capable of performing several key functions:

  • Testing air conditioning systems.
  • Recovering and recycling refrigerant from the A/C system. This process condenses, purifies, and stores liquid refrigerant in the unit's cylinder for reuse. The unit can gauge the amount of refrigerant recovered.
  • Gauging the amount of oil removed from the A/C system.
  • Evacuating the air-conditioning system to remove air and moisture, exhausting them to the atmosphere.
  • Charging lubrication oil or UV dye by volume into the air-conditioning system.
  • Electronically charging refrigerant by weight into the A/C system.

The system features electronically controlled functions, providing the operator with constant information and full control. It is designed for durability and high reliability, with a focus on operator safety.

The Automatic Cycle Mode integrates all these operations into a single, automated sequence: Refrigerant Recovering and Recycling, Recovered Oil Drain, Evacuation, and Refrigerant Charging. During this mode, the unit pauses for a set time (0-10 minutes, default 2 minutes) before refrigerant charge, allowing the operator to manually add new oil or UV dye if needed.

The unit also includes a Cylinder Air Purge function to remove non-condensable gases (air) from the internal refrigerant cylinder. This is crucial because air in the A/C system can lead to inefficient operation. The operator can check for air contamination by comparing the cylinder pressure with a temperature-pressure chart based on ambient temperature. If the pressure is too high, the vapor hose can be disconnected, and the cylinder vapor valve slightly opened to purge the air.

Usage Features

The Ariazone 901 is designed for ease of use with several key features:

  • Analog Gauges: Two large gauges on the front panel display suction and discharge pressures in Bar & PSI and temperatures in degrees Celsius, aiding in system diagnosis.
  • Display: A numerical display shows values, with LED indicators above and below indicating whether the display is showing kg or lb, remaining vacuum time, current cylinder refrigerant weight, or the amount of refrigerant being charged/recovered.
  • Mode Indicator: LED groups and membrane switches allow selection of unit functions. Flashing LED patterns indicate system activity.
  • Hand Valves: Console hand valves control refrigerant flow.
  • Service Hose Ports: Dedicated ports for suction (blue, 1¼" SAE) and discharge (red, 1¼" SAE) service hoses.
  • Recovered Oil Drain Reservoir: A 250ml (8.75oz) vessel to gauge recovered oil.
  • New Oil (and/or UV Dye) Storage Reservoir: A 250ml (8.75oz) vessel for automatic oil/dye injection.
  • Cylinder Platform / Electronic Scale: For precise refrigerant weighing.
  • Safety Features: The unit prevents overfilling the internal cylinder (stops recovery at 80% capacity) and will not activate recovery if the A/C system pressure is not above atmospheric pressure. It also alerts for high pressure conditions.
  • Vacuum Leak Monitoring: After evacuation, closing console hand valves isolates the unit from the A/C system, allowing monitoring of suction and discharge gauges for potential vacuum leaks.
  • Refrigerant Cylinder Filling: The unit can transfer refrigerant from a storage cylinder to its internal cylinder, with an automatic stop once the desired amount is transferred.
  • Metric/Imperial System Selection: The operator can easily switch between kilograms (Kg) and pounds (Lb) for weight measurements.
  • Maximum Allowable Refrigerant Weight Setting: The unit allows setting a maximum allowable refrigerant weight in the internal cylinder (e.g., 10kg for a 12kg cylinder, 20kg for a 25kg cylinder, 22kg for a 27kg cylinder) to prevent overfilling.

Maintenance Features

The manual outlines clear service procedures to ensure the longevity and proper functioning of the Ariazone 901:

Every 100 Working Hours / Once a Year Service: The unit provides a service alarm (O Hr) for this maintenance interval.

  • Main Filter Dryer: Replace
  • Primary Recovery Line Filter Strainer: Replace
  • Vacuum Pump Oil: Drain and refill (250ml)
  • Service Hose Rubber Gaskets: Check / Replace
  • Gauges: Test calibration
  • Weight Platform: Test calibration

Every 300 Working Hours Service: This service includes the 100-hour service items, plus additional replacements:

  • Oil Separator: Replace
  • Primary Charging Line Filter Strainer: Replace
  • Recovery Pump Oil: Drain and refill (280ml)
  • Main Filter Dryer: Replace
  • Recovery Line Filter Strainer: Replace
  • Vacuum Pump Oil: Drain and refill (250ml)
  • Service Hose Rubber Gaskets: Check / Replace
  • Gauges: Test calibration
  • Weight Platform: Test calibration

Service Kits: Specific service kits are available:

  • Service Kit 100Hr: Includes Vacuum pump Oil (330ml), Recovery Line Filter Strainer, Main Filter Dryer, and Service Hoses Rubber Gaskets.
  • Service Kit 300Hr: Includes Vacuum pump Oil (330ml), Recovery Line Filter Strainer, Main Filter Dryer, Service Hoses Rubber Gaskets, Charging Line Filter Strainer, Oil Separator, and Recovery Pump Oil (500ml).

The manufacturer recommends keeping a record of all services performed on the machine.

Load Cell Calibration Procedures: The unit provides two calibration steps for the electronic scale:

  • Tare: Calibrating the zero weight display (0.00kg) with an empty cylinder on the platform.
  • Span: Calibrating weight precision using a known weight (minimum 5kg, e.g., 20kg) placed on the platform.

Safety Information: The manual emphasizes important safety guidelines, including operation by accredited technicians only, use of pure R134a refrigerant, wearing protective safety gloves and glasses, risk of electrical shock, avoiding refrigerant inhalation, and proper maintenance by authorized personnel using original parts. The unit should not be operated with flammable refrigerants.
