TROUBLESHOOTING
Problem Probable Cause Correction
Engine will not
start or runs
poorly.
Spark plug wire disconnected. Connect spark plug wire.
Fuel tank empty. Add fuel to the fuel tank.
Throttle control lever not in
correct position.
Reposition throttle control lever.
Excessive fuel in engine cylinder
(flooded).
Wait several minutes to reattempt starting.
See Start The Engine on page 13.
Defective or incorrectly gapped
spark plug.
Replace or regap spark plug. Refer to
engine manual.
Stale or contaminated gasoline. Drain fuel system and refill with fresh
gasoline. See Before Operation on
page 11.
Engine cooling system
overloaded with debris.
Clean debris screen and cooling fins.
Refer to engine manual.
Dirty carburetor or fuel line. Clean carburetor or fuel line. Refer to
engine manual.
Dirty air filter or precleaner. Replace air filter or precleaner. Refer to
engine manual.
Carburetor out of adjustment. Refer to engine manual or see your
Ariens dealer.
Engine
overheats.
Engine cooling system
overloaded with debris.
Clean debris screen and cooling fins.
Allow engine to cool before operating.
Refer to engine manual.
Carburetor out of adjustment. Refer to engine manual or see your
Ariens dealer.
Poor trimming
performance.
Engine throttle not set at fastest
speed.
Place engine / throttle control lever in fast
position.
Trimming too fast. Slow trimming pace.
Trimmer
vibrates.
Trimmer line lengths are uneven. Trim or adjust line to equal lengths.
Replace if necessary. See Replace
Trimmer Line on page 16.
Loose hardware. Check all nuts and bolts, including engine
mounting hardware, and tighten if
necessary.
