Checking the engine oil level

Read oil level
" Park your vehicle so that it is horizontally
level.
" Shut the engine off when it is at operating
temperature.
" Swit ch only the igni t ion back on .
" Wait approx. two minutes.
" Se lect: Function button

The oil level needs to be checked at regular in-
tervals. The best times to do this are whenev-
er you refuel and p rior to long trips.
Depending on the way the vehicle is driven
and the operating conditions, oil consumption
can be up to a 1/2 quart per 600 miles (0.5
li-
ter per 1,000 km) . Consumption may be high-
er within the first 3,000 m iles (5,000 km).

The oil level indicator in the radio or MMI*
Display is only an information d isplay. If
the o il level is too low, a min imum oil
warning appears in the instrument cluster .
Add oil

opened, the current oil leve l is shown in
t he ins t rumen t cluste r the next time the
ignit ion is swit ched on.

Before you check anything in the eng ine com -
partment ,
always read and heed all WARN-
INGS <=>&. in Working in the engine compart -
ment on page 232 .
" Unscrew the cap~ to the eng ine oil filling
hole <=>fig. 209.
" Carefully top off with the appropriate oil in
0.5 liter doses.
" Check the oil level aga in aft er two minutes
¢ page 237 .
" Top off t he oil, if necessa ry.
" Screw the cap back on the f illing hole.
.&,_ WARNING
- Wh ile topping off, the oil must not come
in contact with hot engine parts - fire
hazard !
- The oil filler cap must be properly se-
cured to prevent oil from being sprayed
on the hot engine and exhaust system
when the engine is running - fire hazard!
- If your skin has come in contact with the
engine o il, you must subsequently
cleanse it thoroughly.

- Check the oil leve l using the radio or the
M Ml*.
If the message Please reduce oil
level
appears, contact your authorized
Audi dea ler or other qualified workshop
to have excess oil extracted if necessary.
- Audi does not recommend the use of oil
additives. They may damage the engine
and adversely affe ct your New Vehicle
Warranty.
