Switching the windshield wipers on
The windshield wiper lever controls both the
windshield wipers and the washer system .

The windshield wiper lever ¢ fig. 68 has th e

Activating rain sensor

.. Move switch @ up or down to adjust the
sensitivity of th e rain sensor.
low wiper speed

High wiper speed

One-touch wiping
.. Move the lever to pos ition @ , when you
want to wipe the windshield
briefly .
Automatic wip er/ washer
.. Pull the lever to posi t ion ® (toward the
steering wheel) and ho ld.
.. Release the lever. The washer stops and the
wipers keep going for abou t four seconds .
Depend ing on how long th e lever is held,
different numbers of wash cycles are pe r-
formed .
Turning off the wip ers
.. Move the lever back to position @ .
General information
The windshie ld wipers and the windsh ield
washer system operate only with the ignit ion
on .
During a t empora ry stop, e.g. at a t raffic sig-
nal, the set wipe speed is automati cally re-
duced by one stage.
The windshie ld washe r nozzles are heated at
low temperatures when the ign ition is o n.
Removing water droplets
About 5 seconds after the wash cycle is com-
plete, the wiper system performs a s ingle au -
tomat ic wipe cycle to remove any wate r drop-
lets that remain on the windshie ld while d riv-
ing .
If you would like to deactivate this delayed
wipe cycle while driving, you have to pull the
lever to position ® agai n with in 10 seconds
after this wipe cycle .
Water drop let remova l is reactivated after the
ignition is switched off and then on aga in.
Winter position
To speed up de-icing of the windsh ield wipe rs,
they move to t he winter pos ition when the ig-
nition is switched off and at an outside tem -
perature below 39
°F (4 °() . In this position,
the windshie ld wipers are in an area on the
glass whi ch is reac hed by the air vents below
the g lass . It is also easie r to remove snow and
ice from the windshie ld wipers in t his posi-
tion.
The wipers leave the wint er posi ti o n, when
the igni ti on is switched on, if the windshield
wiper lever is ope rated or the active rain sen-
sor reacts to moisture.
Rain sensor
The rain sensor operates only in the interval
wiper pos ition. When it st arts to rain, the in-
te rval wiper mode is activ ated automatically.
