The iMX113 BD Pyxis™ ES Refrigerator Tower is a specialized refrigeration unit designed for the storage of pharmaceuticals, vaccines, and other medical and scientific products. It is intended for non-residential, indoor use only, operating within an ambient temperature range of 15°C to 32°C (59°F to 90°F) and a relative humidity of up to 80% for temperatures up to 31°C (89°F), and 76% at 32°C (90°F). The unit maintains a temperature control range of 2°C to 8°C (36°F to 46°F). It supports CDC performance and feature recommendations for vaccine storage, eliminating the need for third-party digital data logger (DDL) equipment.
Function Description:
The iMX113 BD Pyxis™ ES Refrigerator Tower integrates with the BD Pyxis MedStation™ ES system for medication management. The refrigerator features an i.C³ Monitoring System that displays temperature, door lock status, and alarm information. It is equipped with a backup battery system that provides electrical power to the i.C³ temperature monitoring system, alarm system, and magnetic door lock during a power failure. However, the backup battery does not provide refrigeration or power to unlock individual bins during a power outage. The unit is designed to store items within shelves or bins, with bins remaining locked until unlocked by the Pyxis MedStation™ ES system.

Usage Features:
- Initial Power-up: Requires plugging the power cord into a grounded outlet, switching AC ON/OFF, and switching the back-up battery key switch ON. The i.C³ system takes 2-5 minutes to start.
- Temperature Setpoint: The default setpoint is 40°F. Users can change the temperature setpoint via the Settings button on the Home screen, requiring a password (default 1234).
- Active Alarms: The i.C³ Monitoring System displays alarm messages for various conditions, including communication failures, probe failures, compressor issues, drive space warnings, and door open alerts.
- Bin Operation: Bins are illuminated and unlocked by the Pyxis MedStation™ ES system. They lock upon full insertion. A metal stop prevents full extension and removal of bins. Bins are designed to contain leaks.
- Power Failure Operation: The backup battery system powers the monitoring and alarm systems, and the magnetic door lock for approximately two hours. During this time, individual bins cannot be unlocked. The door can be unlocked using the Pyxis MedStation or by switching the door lock key switch OFF. For extended power failures, it is recommended to move the refrigerator to the facility's emergency power system. Manual access to bins during a power failure involves opening the exterior door, unlocking and removing a manual release access cover, pulling a red tabbed lever to release bin locks, and then sliding bins out to remove medication.
Maintenance Features:
- Temperature Probes: A solid ballast with a temperature probe for display is installed on the upper left interior side. Remote probes can also be introduced. Recalibration of temperature probes is recommended if the ballast is moved.
- General Recommendations: Allow the refrigerator to reach room temperature before powering on. Allow chamber temperature to stabilize at the setpoint before storing products. Do not remove the condensate evaporator tray cover.
- Product Loading Guidelines: Do not load beyond capacity. Store items within shelves or bins. Ensure a minimum of 2" (50 mm) clearance below the fan for air circulation. Avoid stacking products against the back wall to prevent obstruction of air flow.
- Safety Precautions: Emphasizes avoiding injury by not using mechanical devices for defrosting, not damaging the refrigerant circuit, reviewing safety instructions, securing doors and casters before moving, disconnecting the AC power cord before moving, avoiding physical restriction of moving components, not removing electrical service panels unless instructed, keeping hands away from pinch points, avoiding sharp edges, and not staring into bin illumination LEDs.
- Decontamination: Required for parts prior to sending for service or repair. Contact the Pyxis Technical Support Center for assistance.
- Bin Removal: Instructions for bin removal for cleaning or replacement are provided in the Refrigerator Service & Maintenance Manual.
