Mount the audio amplifier by inserting the screw heads through the mounting holes
in the flanges.
Position the unit so that the screw heads slip in the notches of the mounting holes.
Tighten screws securely.
Wire audio-amplier cable to receiver connector (Jl) and connect Amphenol plug
to amplifier (see figures 3-1 and 3-14). Avoid routing output cable close to input
cable or other audio cables.
Mount and connect speaker to shielded lead.

ANTENNA INSTALLATION
Accurate azimuth and over-the-station performance of the ADF-T-12C/D system requires
the loop antenna be mounted on or very near the fore-and-aft center line of the aircraft.

Determine whether the sense antenna is to be top or bottom mounted. Refer to the
system interconnect diagram for correct antenna connector wiring for bottom mount.
Do not mount the sense antenna near other transmitting/receiving antennas.
The sense antenna should be mounted in the central (fore and aft) region of the air¬
craft in order to have good over-the-station performance. Atop mounted antenna
that is completely back of the wing or abelly antenna forward of the wing will
an early reversal. That is, the ADF needle will start its reversal well before the
aircraft has reached the station. Conversely, atop antenna that is forward or abelly
antenna that is completely back of the wing will not result in acomplete reversal until
the aircraft is past the station.
Alarge sense antenna will give greater range and asteadier ADF bearing. Avery
large sense antenna will produce asluggish ADF needle. Reduced range results
from avery small sense antenna along with avery tight ADF needle.
Awire antenna is much better than awhip antenna in precip-static conditions. When
the whip antenna (Figure 3-13) is used, it must be located at least three (3) feet from
the propeller and mounted in aplace having sufficient structural strength to prevent
structural damage if the antenna should vibrate violently.
Awire antenna approximately parallel to the fuselage should be 10" to 18" from the
skin and 12' to 18' long. Anti-static wire and fittings are recommended because of
the improved performance during precip-static conditions.
An 8to 12 ft. wire antenna supported by afeed-through insulator at the front end and
with an insulated strain relief and wire as necessary to reach the top rudder structure
is asatisfactory antenna. With high winged aircraft, this antenna may have poor
the-station performance which can be improved by moving the antenna forward and
using a7" or 9" mast to support the front end of the antenna.
