Adjusting the valve clearance

l Check the valve clearance on both valves with
a feeler gauge (Fig. 48) .
l Loosen the hexagon nut.
l Adjust the adjustment screw with a screwdriv-
er so that the feeler gauge fits through the gap
between rocker arm and valve shaft with just
noticeable resistance after retightening the
hexagon nut.
l Attach the cylinder head cover with a new gas-
ket and tighten the screws evenly.
l Check the cylinder head cover for leaks after a
short test run.
4.16 Clean cooling fins and cool-
ing air intake opening

Note
Dirty operating conditions, especially lubrication
oil and fuel deposits on the cooling fins of the cyl-
inder and in the cooling air intake reduce the cool-
ing power. You should therefore immediately seal
any leaks in the area of the fuel tank, the cylinder
or the cooling air intake and clean the cooling fins
after.

Caution
For cleaning the engine must be stopped and
cooled down.

l Open the rear hood and clean the intake open-
ing for the cooling air area (Fig. 49) .
