6.12 Check the battery condition,
grease the poles

!
Danger of burning!
When working on the battery do not use open
fire, do not smoke!
Do not let acid come in contact with skin or
clothes!
Wear safety goggles!
Do not lay any tools on the battery!

l Unscrew the battery holder (Fig. 51).
l Remove the vibration damper mat.
Non-maintenance free batteries:
l Clean battery and battery compartment.
l Open plugs and check the acid level.
With control inserts:
l Check whether the acid level reaches the bot-
tom end of the control inserts.
With transparent battery housing:
l Check whether the acid level reaches the level
mark on the housing.
Maintenance free batteries:
l Clean the battery
l Grease the poles
l Tighten the terminal clamps
Environment
Dispose of the old batteries environmentally.
Danger
!
Development of gas!
For recharging remove the plugs from the bat-
tery to avoid the accumulation of highly explo-
sive gases.

l Clean the condition of the vibration insulation
mats, replace if necessary (Fig. 52).
l Retighten the battery holder.
