Do you have a question about the Bosch 0 275 007 038 and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The Bosch Drive Unit is an integral component of an eBike system, designed to provide electric assistance for cycling. This manual, available in English, French, and Spanish, outlines its functions, technical specifications, usage, and maintenance.

Function Description:

The Bosch Drive Unit is exclusively intended for propelling an eBike, offering various levels of assistance to enhance the cycling experience. It integrates with other eBike components, including the battery, on-board computer, and speed sensor, to deliver a seamless and efficient ride. The system activates when the rider pedals and deactivates when pedaling stops or a speed of 20 mph is reached. It automatically reactivates when pedaling resumes and the speed is below 20 mph.

The eBike system offers several assistance modes:

  • OFF: Electric assistance is deactivated, allowing the eBike to be ridden like a normal bicycle. Walk assistance is not available in this mode.
  • ECO: Provides effective assistance with maximum efficiency for extended range.
  • TOUR: Offers regular assistance for long-distance rides.
  • SPORT/eMTB:
    • SPORT: Delivers powerful assistance for sporty riding on mountainous trails and urban cycling.
    • eMTB: (Available for Performance Line CX drives) Offers optimal assistance across all terrains, dynamic sporty riding, and improved performance. This mode dynamically adjusts assistance and torque based on pedaling effort.
  • TURBO: Provides maximum assistance, even at high pedaling frequencies, for sporty riding.

The system also includes a "Walk Assistance" function, which helps push the eBike at speeds up to 3.7 mph. This function's speed depends on the selected gear, with lower gears resulting in slower walk assistance. To activate, briefly press the "WALK" button on the on-board computer, then press and hold the "+" button within 3 seconds. Walk assistance deactivates when the "+" button is released, the wheels stop, or the speed exceeds 3.7 mph.

For eBikes equipped with eShift (optional), an electronic gear shifting system is integrated with the drive unit. The eShift components are electrically connected to the drive unit, and their operation is described in a separate instruction manual.

Usage Features:

  • Activation: The eBike system can be activated if the battery is sufficiently charged, the on-board computer is correctly inserted, and the speed sensor is properly connected. It can be turned on automatically when the on-board computer is inserted while already on, by briefly pressing the on/off button on the on-board computer, or by pressing the on/off button on the battery when the on-board computer is mounted.
  • Deactivation: The system can be turned off by pressing the on/off button on the on-board computer, by turning off the eBike battery, or by removing the on-board computer from its mount. The system automatically switches off after 10 minutes of inactivity to save energy.
  • Speed Sensor Check: The speed sensor (17) and spoke magnet (18) must be positioned so that the magnet passes the sensor with a clearance of 5 mm to 17 mm. Incorrect clearance or connection will cause the speed indicator to fail and the drive unit to operate in emergency mode. Adjustment involves loosening the spoke magnet screw and repositioning it. If issues persist, contact an authorized Bosch eBike dealer.
  • Battery Insertion/Removal: Refer to the battery pack operating instructions for proper insertion and removal procedures. Always remove the battery before performing any work on the eBike.
  • Safety: Always read and understand all safety warnings and instructions. Do not open the drive unit; repairs must be performed by qualified experts using original spare parts. Only use original Bosch battery packs approved by the manufacturer. Do not modify the eBike system or attach unauthorized products to increase performance. Observe all local, state, and federal regulations for eBike use.

Maintenance Features:

  • General Maintenance: Regular technical inspections (mechanical, software updates) should be performed at least once a year by an authorized Bosch eBike dealer.
  • Cleaning: Do not immerse eBike components, including the drive unit, in water or clean them with a high-pressure washer. The Bosch drive unit is designed to be rain and splash-proof. Keep all eBike components clean, especially battery contacts and mounting brackets. Clean gently with a soft, damp cloth using mild soap and water.
  • Storage: Respect the operating and storage temperatures for eBike components. Protect the drive unit, on-board computer, and battery from extreme temperatures (e.g., intense sunlight without ventilation).
  • Troubleshooting: If a malfunction is suspected, do not use the eBike and consult an authorized Bosch eBike dealer. Ensure all nuts, bolts, and screws are tightened to the correct torque to prevent component failure or loss of control.
  • Key Management: Note the manufacturer's name and key number. If keys are lost, contact an authorized Bosch eBike dealer, providing this information.
  • Painting: Do not paint any components of the Bosch drive system, as this may lead to premature component failure.
  • Service and Customer Support: For any questions or issues regarding the eBike system, contact an authorized Bosch eBike dealer. Contact information for authorized dealers can be found on www.bosch-ebike.com. If the battery can no longer function, contact an authorized dealer.
