11.1 LIGHTING FIRE IN A COLD FIREPLACE
1. Set the air adjusting lever for combustion to "lighting up" (position
1 = 100 % OPEN). The maximum air supply allows the wood to ignite
quickly.

2. Place the prescribed load of wood crosswise in the firing bowl of the
combustion chamber. Both logs at the bottom are laid along the longi-
tudinal axis between both lateral combustion air inlets.
Arrangement of logs inside the combustion chamber and placement of fire starters
and small pieces of wood.
Firestarter (e.g. BRUNNER Fidibuss) and small wood chips are lit
among the pieces of wood in the upper layer. Remember: The quicker
the fire is lit, the lower the emissions!
Big and round wood logs are hard to ignite and burn poorly in a cold
fire-place. Never use petrol, alcohol etc. as aids for starting fire!
3. Close the fireplace door and watch the starting re for a few minutes. If
the fire goes out, open the door slowly, put a new fire starter between
the logs and light up again.
CAUTION: The door remains closed during the whole combustion pro-
cess!

fire-starter between the top layer of wood logs.
4. In the main combustion phase, the amount of combustion air is
reduced.
