PASSTHROUGHmodesetsthepre-ampgainto1(unitygain)andlocksoutthevolume&balancecontrolsfor
anysingleanalogaudiosource.Forexample,iftheFrontLeftandFrontRightoutputsofahometheatersur-
roundsoundprocesserwereconnectedtotheTVinputoftheB100,andthenPASS THROUGHwasengagedthen
wheveverTV inputisselected thevolumeandbalancecontrolswouldbelockedatunitygain.Ifotherinputswere
subsequentlyselected,volumeandbalancecontrolsreturntonormaloperationforthoseotherinputsources.Only
theTVinputswouldbelockedatunitygain.PASSTHROUGHmode,therefore,canonlybeassignedtooneinput
atatime,butthatinputcanbeanyoneoftheanalogaudioinputs.Thepoweramplifierstageisnotaffectedby
PASSTHROUGHmode.PASSTHROUGHmodecanonlybeset(orreset)bysendingthe3digitcode“245”to
theB100eitherfromthehandheldIRremotecontrolorviatheRS232serialdatainput.See“SendingCodestothe
B100viatheIRHandheldRemoteControl”&“WiredRS232RemoteControl”.ToreassignPASSTHROUGHmode
toadifferentinputsourcesimplyselectthedesiredinputandre-sendthe“245”codetotheB100.Toturnthedeac-
tivatePASSTHORUGHmode,selectthecurrentPass Throughinputandthensendthe“245”codetotheB100.
The“245”togglesPASSTHROUGHmodeonandoff.
DIGITAL-TO-ANALOG (D/A) CONVERTER OPTION
TheB100-DAcomesequippedwithstereoDigital-to-Analogconverter(D/AorDAC)module.Thismoduleis
alsoretrofittabletostandardB100units.
AuniquefeatureoftheB100-DAisitsabilitytoutilizeuptofourindependentdigitalsources(twoSPDIF
andtwoTOSLINK).ThesefourdigitalinputscanbeaccessedbyselectingD1, D2, D3 and D4 sourceswith
theDACfeatureenabled(bypressingtheDIGITAL4Selectbuttonontheleftendofthefrontpanel).
ActivatetheDACfeaturebypressingtheDIGITAL4Select(AUX 2)buttonontheleftsideofthefrontpanel
(orA/Dontheremote).TheLEDbelowtheDIGITAL4SelectbuttonwillturnGreen.Pressinganyofthefol-
lowingfourbuttonswillcausetheirLEDstolightgreen,aswell,toindicateaPCMdigitalsourceispresent
andconnectedproperly.
• SPDIF1isaccessedbyselectingD1 onthefrontpanelortheremote.
• SPDIF2isaccessedbyselectingD2 onthefrontpanelortheremote.
• Optical1isaccessedbyselectingD3onthefrontpanelortheremote.
• Optical2isaccessedbyselectingD4onthefrontpanelortheremote.
ThesourceLED’swillturnGREENwhenaPCMdigitalbitstreamispresent.Ifthereisnobitstreamavailable
oranincorrectbitstream(NON-PCM)theLEDwillturnRED.
Youmayre-selectAnalogbysimplydepressingtheDIGITAL4Select(AUX 2)buttononcemoreandtheLED
willextinguish.
Alloftheabovefunctionsareavailablefromthehandheldremotecontrolaswell.
MOVING-MAGNET PHONO STAGE OPTION
TheB100-Pcontainsamoving magnet phonostage.ThePhonoStageismodularandcanbeaddedtothestan-
dardB100modellaterifrequiredbyyourBrystondealer.
Bryston’sMMPhonosectionfeaturesstate-of-the-artaccuracyinequalization,extremelylownoiseanddistor-
tion,andprovidesheadroommarginssufficienttopreventoverloadfromanyknownphonosource.Toaccessthe
Phonosectionsimplyplugyourleft/rightturntableinterconnectleadsintotheleft/rightAUX-1/PHONOinputsonthe
rearpaneloftheB100andpresstheAUX-1/PHONObuttononthefrontpanel.TheAUX-1/PHONOLEDwillturngreen.
Ifyourturntableprovidesaseparategroundlead,systemnoisemaybeminimizedbyconnectingittotheground
luginthecenteroftherearpanel.
