Installation Procedure
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
Terms Used in
This Manual
battery: your battery backup
system in its entirety
battery unit: the smallest segment
of the battery being monitored by
the S5 system (can be 1 or more
cells/jars in a unit)
battery jar: one to six cells
enclosed in a common smallest
replaceable part
battery cell: the smallest portion of
your battery having a voltage
between positive and negative
poles
battery string: a set of battery cells/
jars wired in series
battery bar or strap: a piece of
metal or cable connecting two
battery cells/jars
CM-2 (current module): the
module that measures current across a single battery string
CT (current transducer): the device that measures current and terminates at the CM-2
LCL (load current lead): the 14-gauge wire used to apply load current to the battery. This
load current is used to measure impedance.
SCM-600 (system control module): the module that controls the operations of all the
modules and acts as the interface to users
VM-24 (voltage module): the module that measures voltage across up to 24 battery units,
usually within a single battery string.VSL (voltage sense lead): the wire for measuring AC
and DC voltages from the battery units
