4.4 Configuring and Attaching the Profiler
Refer to the operating instructions for Valeport Connect to configure the profiler for the required cast
type (upcast/downcast) and required sample steps.
As described in section 3.8, the profiler should be configured to operate in automatic mode.
When the winch is initially powered up, the manual IN and OUT controls are active by default. Use
these ‘jog’ controls to wind enough line off the winch to have safe and easy access to the loop
termination.
The profiler should be attached to this loop termination using a suitable shackle.
WARNING: Ensure the shackle is tightened firmly. The use of a cable-tie or seizing wire is
recommended to ensure the shackle cannot work loose in operation
4.5 Setting the Data Transfer Position
To enable reliable data transfer from the attached profiler, and before any casts can be performed, the
user must set the position where they wish the profiler to be recovered to when the cast is completed.
This position is referred to as the data transfer position.
Typically this position would keep the lower half of the profiler in the water, whilst exposing the upper
surface to allow data transfer to complete. A benefit of keeping the profiler partially submerged is that
forward motion of the vessel will keep the profiler stable.
