The CatEye RAPIDX KINETIC TL-LD710K is a rechargeable lithium-ion polymer battery-powered bicycle tail light designed to enhance rider visibility and safety. Its primary function is to provide rear illumination for bicycles, with an advanced Kinetic function that automatically activates a bright High mode upon detecting deceleration.
The core function of the RAPIDX KINETIC is to emit light from the rear of a bicycle, making the rider more visible to others, especially in low-light conditions. It offers three distinct lighting modes: Low, Flashing, and Rapid, each with varying runtimes. The standout feature is its Kinetic function, which utilizes an acceleration sensor to detect when the bicycle is decelerating. Upon detection, the light automatically switches to a bright High mode for approximately 2.5 seconds, regardless of the currently selected lighting mode. This provides an additional warning to following traffic, similar to a brake light on a motor vehicle. The light remains in High mode as long as deceleration is detected. An automatic battery-saving function is integrated, which, when the battery power is low, causes the lighting mode switch to flash and changes the lighting mode to flash, while disabling the Kinetic function to conserve power.
Charging: The device is charged via a Micro USB cable, which can be connected to a PC or a USB battery charger. A standard charging time of approximately 2 hours is required for a full charge (using USB 2.0). It is crucial to charge the product before its first use. For optimal battery life, charging should occur when the ambient temperature is between 5 and 40°C (41°F and 104°F), avoiding direct sunlight or hot environments like inside a parked vehicle. Before charging, ensure no dust or foreign objects are attached to the USB plug. The unit cannot be charged if the PC is in sleep state. Once charging is complete, the USB plug should be disconnected.
Mounting: The light is designed to be securely attached to the bicycle's seatpost using a rubber band. For seatposts with a more acute angle, an optional rubber base for Sharp Aero is available to ensure proper alignment.
Operation: The light is operated by a single switch. Pressing and holding the switch turns the light ON or OFF. A single click of the switch cycles through the available lighting modes: Low, Flashing, and Rapid. The switch also serves as an indicator; it flashes when the battery power is low and the automatic battery-saving function is active.
Kinetic Function: This feature is active in all lighting modes as long as sufficient battery power is available. It provides an added layer of safety by signaling deceleration to other road users. However, it's important to note that the activation of the Kinetic function depends on the degree of deceleration, meaning the light may not react or its reaction may be delayed in some situations.
General Care: The light is not entirely waterproof, so after use in rain, it should be wiped and dried completely to prevent failure. If the light unit or its parts become dirty with mud, they should be cleaned with a soft cloth moistened with mild soap. Harsh chemicals such as paint thinner, benzine, or alcohol should never be used, as they can cause damage.
Battery Care: To ensure the longevity of the rechargeable battery, it's recommended to avoid charging, discharging, and storing the light in high temperatures. For long-term storage, it's important to charge the battery for 30 minutes every 6 months to prevent deep discharge. If the illumination time significantly reduces even after proper charging, it indicates that the rechargeable battery may be nearing the end of its service life and should be disposed of according to local regulations.
Pre-ride Check: Before each trip, riders should ensure the light is securely attached and functioning properly. The rubber band should be inspected for any damage. It's also advisable to periodically check the indicator to monitor the remaining battery power.
