Overview

This document describes the LiftMaster Wi-Fi® Garage Door Opener, available in Chain Drive Models (81600, 81602, 81640, 81650, 83650-267) and a Belt Drive Model (81550), designed for residential use.

Function Description:

The LiftMaster Wi-Fi® Garage Door Opener allows users to monitor and control their garage door from anywhere using the myQ® App on a Wi-Fi® enabled smartphone, tablet, or laptop. It connects to a broadband internet connection and requires a 2.4 GHz, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi® signal in the garage. The opener is compatible with myQ® and Security+ 2.0® accessories. It features an Alert2Close function, providing visual and audible alerts when an unattended door is closing, and a Timer-to-Close (TTC) feature that automatically closes the door after a specified time period. The TTC feature, myQ® App, and other myQ® devices providing unattended close are to be used ONLY with sectional doors, not one-piece or swinging garage doors. The system includes The Protector System® (safety reversing sensors) which use an infrared light beam to prevent the door from closing on obstructions. If the beam is broken while closing, the door will stop and reverse to the full open position. If the door is fully open and sensors are not installed or misaligned, the door will not close from a remote control, but can be closed by holding the button on the door control or keyless entry until fully closed. The opener lights turn on when activated or power is restored and turn off automatically after 4-1/2 minutes. A battery backup system (Model 81602 only) provides access during power outages, operating the door slower and without lights, with an orange LED and beeping every 2 seconds (or every 30 seconds if the battery is low).

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Power: Operates at 120V, 60 Hz.
  • Light Bulbs: Uses A19 incandescent bulbs (100 watt maximum), or compact fluorescent bulbs (26W/100W equivalent maximum). Halogen, short neck, or specialty bulbs are not recommended. LED bulbs may cause remote control radio interference; only recommended LED bulbs should be used.
  • myQ® Compatibility: Compatible with up to 16 myQ® enabled accessories. Up to 10 devices can be paired to the internal gateway for myQ® App control. Up to 6 devices can be paired directly to the opener (900MHz) for control by myQ® light controls or a garage door and gate monitor.
  • Security+ 2.0® Compatibility: Compatible with Security+ 2.0® remote controls and door controls. Older LiftMaster remote controls and third-party products are not compatible.
  • Safety Reversing Sensors: Must be installed no higher than 6" (15 cm) above the garage floor.
  • Door Control Installation: Wall-mounted door control must be installed within sight of the garage door, out of reach of small children (minimum 5 feet/1.5 m above floor), and away from all moving parts.
  • Emergency Release Handle: Must be mounted within reach, but at least 6 feet (1.83 m) above the floor, avoiding contact with vehicles.
  • Battery Backup (Model 81602 only): Uses LiftMaster part # 485LM 12V battery. Requires 24 hours to fully charge, provides up to 24 hours of normal operation during an outage. Recharges within 24 hours. Battery life is approximately 1-2 years with normal usage.

Usage Features:

  • myQ® App: Allows remote operation, alerts, and scheduling. Requires myQ® App download, account setup, and connection. Wi-Fi® programming activates after a full open/close cycle.
  • Multi-Function Door Control (882LMW): Synchronizes by pressing the push bar until the opener activates. Push bar opens/closes the door. Light button turns opener lights on/off. Features accessible by lifting the push bar include:
    • Learn a Device: Programs compatible remote controls, wireless keyless entry, or myQ® accessories.
    • Lock: Prevents activation from remote controls while allowing activation from the door control and keyless entry.
    • Maintenance Alert System (MAS): Alerts when service is needed (approx. 4500 cycles) by alternately flashing yellow (command) and red (service) LEDs.
  • Push Button Door Control (883LMW): Synchronizes by pressing the push button until the opener activates. Push button opens/closes the door. Light/Learn button turns lights on/off and can be used to program devices.
  • Remote Control Programming: Pre-programmed at the factory. Additional remotes or keyless entries can be programmed via the door control's LEARN button or the opener's LEARN button.
  • Manual Door Operation: Emergency release handle disconnects the trolley for manual operation. The door should be fully closed if possible before disengaging. The lockout feature prevents automatic reconnection until the handle is pulled straight down.

Maintenance Features:

  • Monthly:
    • Manually operate the door to check for balance and binding; call a technician if issues persist.
    • Verify full open/close travel and adjust if necessary.
    • Test the safety reversal system monthly and after any adjustments. The door must reverse on contact with a 1-1/2" (3.8 cm) high object on the floor.
  • Annually:
    • Oil door rollers, bearings, and hinges. The opener does not require additional lubrication. Do not grease door tracks.
    • Test the battery backup and consider replacement if needed.
  • Every Two to Three Years (T-Rail Only):
    • Wipe away existing grease from the rail.
    • Reapply a thin layer of white lithium grease to the top and underside of the rail surface where the trolley slides.
  • Remote Control Battery Replacement: Replace ONLY with 3V CR2032 coin batteries. Pry open the case to replace. Do not recharge, disassemble, heat above 212°F (100°C), or incinerate. Keep batteries away from children.
