STEERINGCOLUMNINSTALLATION
1.Foreaseofassemblyandtopreventcorrosion,applyalightcoatofanti-seizeorlubricatingcompoundtothe
endofthesteeringcolumnshaft.
2.Positionthesteeringcolumn(11)onthechassiswhileinsertingthesteeringcolumnshaftintotheupperuniversal
jointoftheintermediateshaft(10)(Figure7-3,Page7-3).Thenotchedportionofthesteeringshaftspline
mustbealignedwiththeboltholeintheuniversaljointbeforeslidingthesplineintotheuniversaljoint.While
holdingthesteeringcolumninplace,attachittotheframeusingboltsandnuts(4and5).Threadthenuts
ontotheboltsbutdonottightenthem.
3.Installthebolt(9)intheupperuniversaljointandngertighten.
4.Tightenthefoursteeringcolumnlocknutsto216in-lb(24.5N·m).
5.Tightenthebolt(9)ontheupperuniversaljointto20ft-lb(27N·m).
6.Checktheotherboltsontheuniversaljointstoensurethattheyareproperlytightenedto20ft-lb(27N·m).
