3.2.1 CELERON PROCESSOR
The Intel Celeron Processor (Figure 3-2) is contained on a PC board onto which is mounted a
passive heat sink. The board installs into a Slot 1-type connector on the system board, allowing
easy replacing/upgrading of the processor/cache memory complex. This processor includes a
dual-ALU MMX-supporting CPU, branch prediction logic, dual-pipeline math coprocessor, and a
32-KB cache that is split into two 16-KB 4-way, set-associative caches for handling code and
data separately. The Host bus interface operates at 66 MHz while core processing occurs at 266
MHz, and the processor is backward-compatible with software written for previous x86
microprocessors.

3.2.2 PENTIUM II PROCESSOR
The Intel Pentium II processor (Figure 3-3) is contained in a single-edge connector (SEC)
cartridge that installs into a Slot 1-type connector on the system board, allowing easy
replacing/upgrading of the processor/cache memory complex. This processor includes the
functional components of the 266-MHz processor and includes a 512-KB write-through L2
cache. The L2 cache operates at half the speed of the core processor. The front side (Host) bus
interface operates at 66 MHz while core processing occurs at 266, 300 or 333 MHz, depending
on version. This processor is backward-compatible with software written for x86-type
microprocessors.
