2. Hardware Overview / Getting Started
Before using your hardware, please read this section. It describes the hardware information
necessary for successful installation and operation. Once you understand your hardware connection,
move to Section 3 for connecting to Ethernet.
2.1 Gryphon - S3 hardware
2.1.1 Package contents
The Gryphon - S3 is shipped by default as a DHCP Server with an IP address of 192.168.1.1. The
tool package should include the following items:
Gryphon - S3 hardware unit
RJ45 Ethernet null cable (crossed)
Hardware Installation Manual (on the CD)
Hercules Software CD (and manual), only if sold as a Bundle
12 VDC power adapter
If you are missing any part of this package, please contact your sales representative, or the technical
support hotline, immediately.
2.1.2 Hardware setup
The following sections describe the steps necessary for providing power to the Gryphon - S3
tool, establishing its connection to your PC, and configuring your PC’s settings to enable
communication with the unit.
2.1.2.1 Power connector
The Gryphon - S3 tool may be powered through the shared connector (Labeled “HS CAN/SW CAN),
the barrel power jack, or if an expansion module is present it can be powered through its connector..
The tool must be powered by only one source at a time. Connecting to multiple power sources may
cause damage to the hardware.
WARNING! Never connect more than one power source to the S3 tool at a time.
