17. With the seat switch closed and the directional
control forward/reverse switch in NEUTRAL,
turn the key switch ON. Observe the battery
discharge indicator.
18. Make sure the battery is charged before
operating the lift truck. A fully charged battery
will cause ā€œ9 Segmentsā€ to be displayed on the
BDI display.
Better Battery Performance
NOTICE
The lift truck operator must not start a shift with a
battery that has been taken off a charger too soon.
A battery should never be disconnected from a
charge until the charge cycle has been completed.
The batteries that have been fully charged should
have a tag attached for identification.
In Operation, a battery should be discharged then
recharged in 8 to 12 hours, depending on the
charger type. Then, they should be allowed to cool
and stabilize 4 to 8 hours. Repeated undercharging
must be prevented. It can damage the battery.
If there is an indication of low battery operation, the
lift truck operator should return the lift truck to the
battery charging area.
