Exhaust Port Cleaning
.
Parts Required: As needed: Mufer Gasket
1. Remove air lter cover and remove spark plug lead.
2. Loosen chain tension, release chain brake, and remove two guide
bar nuts, clutch cover, guide bar, and chain.
3. Remove mufer cover screws and remove mufer cover. (See
“Guide Bar and Saw Chain – Install/Remove” in Instruction Manual
for detailed disassembly instructions.)
NOTE
Some units may have a metal shim (A) between the mufer cover
and clutch cover. Make sure shim is installed properly when reas-
sembling parts.
4. Place piston at top dead center.
5. Remove mufer nuts (B), washer sets (C), eyeplate (D), mufer
(E), and mufer gasket (F). Check parts for wear or damage, and
replace if necessary.

6. Use a wood or plastic scraping tool to clean deposits from cylinder
exhaust ports (G).
IMPORTANT
If mufer mounting studs loosened during mufer nut removal,
tighten studs using two nuts (H) tightened together on end of stud.
Turn outer nut clockwise, and tighten stud to 70 kgf • cm (7 N-m, 60
in • lbf). Do not exceed specications, otherwise stud damage may
occur. To remove nuts, hold inner nut, and turn outer nut counter
clockwise to remove, then turn inner nut counter clockwise to re-
move.
