Overview

The Eemax AccuMix II is an electric instantaneous water heater designed to provide hot water for handwashing and other mild temperature uses. This device is specifically engineered to take in cold water and heat it to a factory preset temperature of 105°F (40.6°C). It is an advanced tankless water heater that utilizes a complex algorithm to actively manage power application based on real-time system demand.

Function Description:

The AccuMix II operates as an on-demand electric water heater, meaning it heats water only when needed, eliminating the need for a storage tank and reducing standby energy losses. It incorporates an integrated flow meter and both inlet and outlet thermistors to provide real-time data, allowing the heater to instantly adapt to variations in water flow and temperature. This intelligent control ensures consistent hot water delivery at the desired temperature. A key feature of the AccuMix II is its ASSE 1070-2004 approved mixing valve, which helps meet UPC 407.3 and similar plumbing codes for public handwashing applications by ensuring a safe and consistent water temperature at the point of use. The unit is designed to be installed as close as possible to the point-of-use to optimize performance and energy savings.

Important Technical Specifications:

The AccuMix II series offers various models with different voltage, power, current, and wire size requirements.

  • Voltage (VAC): Models are available for 120V, 240V, and 277V electrical systems.
    • 120V: AM004120T
    • 240V: AM005240T, AM007240T, AM010240T, AM012240T
    • 277V: AM004277T, AM008277T, AM010277T
  • Max Power (kW): Ranges from 3.5 kW (AM004120T) to 11.5 kW (AM012240T).
  • Max Current (A): Ranges from 15A (AM004277T) to 48A (AM012240T).
  • Minimum Wire Size (AWG) @75°C rating: Varies from 8 AWG to 14 AWG depending on the model.
  • Minimum/Maximum Working Pressure: 30 PSI / 150 PSI.
  • Optimal Operating Pressure Range: 35 to 80 PSI.
  • Minimum Flow Rate: 0.3 GPM (gallons per minute).
  • Fittings: Supplied with 3/8" brass compression fittings compatible with copper or PEX™ piping.
  • Temperature Preset: Factory preset to 105°F (40.6°C).
  • Safety Features: Equipped with an Energy Cut-Off (ECO) to prevent overheating.
  • Certifications: ASSE 1070-2004 approved mixing valve.

Usage Features:

  • Point-of-Use Installation: Designed for installation under the sink, as close as possible to the faucet, to minimize heat loss and maximize efficiency.
  • Mounting Flexibility: Can be mounted in any orientation, though the ideal position is with fittings pointed down. A minimum of 8 inches of service clearance is required at the end opposite the fittings.
  • Digital Display: Features a digital display on the circuit board that shows the temperature setpoint. During startup, it displays a 60-second countdown for self-calibration. The display turns off after 5 minutes of inactivity and reactivates when water flows through the heater.
  • Silent Mode: The heater comes preset in silent mode. Users can switch to non-silent operation by adjusting a jumper on the control board.
  • Flow Restriction Aerators: Some models are supplied with separate faucet aerators, which must be installed for optimum performance and to ensure lower-than-expected heater performance is avoided.
  • Cold Water Supply: Eemax strongly recommends supplying the heater directly from the main cold water trunk line to prevent potential water flow interruptions that could lead to heating element failure.
  • Isolation Valves: The use of full flow ball-type isolation valves on both inlet and outlet pipes is recommended for maintenance and system isolation.
  • Y-Strainer: A 40 mesh Y-Strainer on the inlet of the heater is recommended for optimum performance of the mixing valve, requiring periodic cleaning.

Maintenance Features:

  • Periodic Cleaning: To maintain consistent water flow and optimal performance, it may be necessary to periodically clean the faucet aerator or the filter screen located in the brass inlet fitting at the heater.
  • Troubleshooting Guide: The manual provides a comprehensive troubleshooting table for common fault codes (e.g., F23 for "No heat," F24 for "Low heat," F33 for "Shorted triacs," F34 for "Overvoltage," F36 for "Undervoltage," F38 for "High flow," F47 for "Inlet thermistor failure," F48 for "Outlet thermistor failure," F64 for "Freeze warning," F83 for "Inverted flow," F99 for "Heater disabled"). Each fault code includes possible causes, heater response, and suggested solutions.
  • Component Access: The internal components, such as the heating chamber, triacs, energy cut-off (ECO), control board, and contactor, are accessible for service and repair. The element cartridge is installed inside the heating chamber.
  • Repair Parts: A list of part numbers for fittings, aerators, and repair parts (element cartridge, control board, relay, Energy Cut-Off kit) is provided for each AccuMix II model, facilitating easy ordering of replacement components.
  • Technical Support: Eemax offers technical support via phone and email for advanced troubleshooting and assistance.

Installation Requirements and Warnings:

  • Electrical Disconnection: Always disconnect electrical power before attempting any installation, modification, or service.
  • Code Compliance: Installation must conform to the latest requirements of the National Electrical Code and all applicable state and local codes.
  • Grounding: The system must be properly grounded to prevent serious injury, death, and/or property damage. A green terminal or wire connector is provided for grounding.
  • Dedicated Circuit: The heater requires its own independent circuit with insulated, UL listed, 2-wire cable (2-wire plus ground) of the appropriate size, suitable for up to 75°C, and protected by a correctly rated circuit breaker.
  • No Freezing Temperatures: The heater must be installed in a location where it is not subject to freezing temperatures.
  • Plumbing Connections: Do not substitute threaded pipe fittings using pipe dope or Teflon tape, and never solder any pipe connections while attached to the heater, as this will damage the heater and void the warranty. Compression fittings should not be overtightened.
  • Water Purging: Before commissioning, water must be run through the inlet pipe into a bucket to purge it of any debris, and then through the hot water faucet for a minute or two until the flow is continuous and free of air pockets.
  • Scald Potential: Hot water can be dangerous, especially for vulnerable individuals. Water temperatures over 125°F (51°C) can cause severe burns or scalding. Users are advised to test water temperature before use, especially for children.
  • Canadian Installations: Specific warnings for Canadian installations include connecting only to a Class A Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter, not installing in a bath enclosure or shower stall, not connecting to a salt-regenerated water softener or salt water supply, and using only copper conductors and bonding conductor in accordance with the Canadian Electrical Code Part I.
