8.0 MAINTENANCE.
8.1 Battery Maintenance.
The Elcometer 136 battery should be stored charged. Due to
the gel and sealed casing, the battery does not require topping
up with water.
The battery life is normally 8 hours. Recharging time for the
battery is 10 hours. If the usage is greater than 8 hours in every
24 hours, spare batteries will be necessary. See Section 9.0
8.1.1 Charging the Battery.
Remove the detector from the carry case.
The battery should be removed from the detector. Loosen
the bolts on each side of the detector.
Keeping the battery terminals side up, connect the charger to
the connection on the side of the battery.
Plug the charger into the mains supply and switch on the
supply. The red indicator shows that the battery is charging;
the green indicator together with the red indicator shows that
it is fully charged. Charge the battery for 10 hours.
8.1.2 Replacing the Battery.
Remove the detector from the carry case.
The battery should be removed from the detector. Loosen
the bolts on each side of the detector.
Check that the battery connectors in the detector are not
flattened. If they are, lever them up gently with a screwdriver.
Ensure the detector is off and ‘Voltage’ is turned fully
anti-clockwise.
Insert the new, or recharged, battery ensuring correct polarity.
Refit the bolts on the side of the detector.
