8.1.3 Deep Discharged Battery.
If the battery terminal voltage falls below ~1.5V, the battery is
said to be in a deep discharged condition. If the battery is
re-charged within 4 weeks no damage will occur, but it may
take up to 72 hours to fully charge. Batteries which have been
deep discharged for more than 4 weeks can be recovered, but
it is more likely that damage will have occurred.
8.2 Lengthening the Earth Lead.
If the earth connection is some distance from the test area then
a longer earth lead should be used. See Section 9.5 for
alternative earth leads.
This ensures that the detector and alarm indicators, will be
close to the Operator and that the voltage decrease in the
probe lead will be not be too high.
8.3 Routine Checks.
Regularly check, and replace if necessary, the detector, probe,
earth leads and connectors for damage.
If service or annual renewal of the Calibration Certificate is
required, return your Elcometer 136 to your local Distributor or
to Elcometer Instruments Ltd.
