Print head alignment
To prevent deterioration of print quality caused
by misalignment of the print head, align the print
head before you start printing your data.
You can perform print head alignment using:
❏ printer driver
❏ printer’s control panel
Usually perform print head alignment using the
printer driver. If you do not have a computer or
software, use the printer’s control panel.
Aligning the print head using the
printer driver
A
Make sure that the roll paper or one sheet of
A4/Letter size or larger paper is loaded in
the printer.
See “Paper Handling” on page 30

Open the Utility menu of the printer driver.

Click Print Head Alignment.
Follow the on-screen instructions to align
the print heads.
Aligning the print head using the
control panel
Select AUTO to correct any head misalignment
automatically to obtain optimum printing results.
If you select MANUAL, you need to check the pattern
and enter the value for alignment.
Setting the paper type and paper
thickness
Set the paper type for the Epson special media,
and set the paper thickness for the non-Epson
media.

Make sure that the roll paper or one sheet of
A4/Letter size or larger paper is loaded in
the printer.
Make sure to set the paper correctly
according to the paper.
See “Paper Handling” on page 30

Press the button to enter the Menu
mode.

Press the / button to select HEAD
ALIGNMENT, and then press the button.
D
Press the / button to select PAPER
THICKNESS, and then press the button.
E
Set the paper type or paper thickness
depending on the paper you set in the
printer.
Epson special media:
1. Press the / button to select SELECT
PAPER TYPE, and then press the button.
2. Press the / button to select the
paper type you set in the printer, and then
press the button.
Non-Epson media:
1. Press the / button to select SELECT
THICKNESS, and then press the button.
2. Press the / button to select a paper
thickness value between 0.1 and 1.5 mm,
and then press the button.
See the manual that comes with the paper
for the paper thickness.
Note:
Align the print head for the paper width loaded in the
printer. Use the Epson special media (except plain
paper) which paper width is the same as the paper that
you actually use for printing.
Note:
You cannot use Plain Paper for automatic alignment.
