This document is a Use and Care Guide for the Everbilt Automatic Pool Cover Pump, SKU # 1001627571, Model # UT08804.
Function Description
The Everbilt Automatic Pool Cover Pump is a submersible utility pump designed for water removal applications. It can automatically drain or remove water from various flooded areas such as swimming pool covers, sinks, window wells, boats, and low spots in yards. The pump is designed for automatic operation, with water detector sensors that activate the pump when the water level is over 2 inches deep. It continues to run until the water is pumped down to 3/8 inch deep, then stops. If the water level is not over 2 inches, the pump will not start.
This pump is not tested or approved for use in swimming pools or salt-water marine areas. It is not designed to function as a permanently installed sump pump, nor is it engineered to run continuously as a "fountain" or "waterfall" pump. It should not be used where water re-circulates.

Usage Features
Safety Information:
- DANGER: Do not pump flammable or explosive liquids (oil, gasoline, kerosene, ethanol, etc.) or use in the presence of flammable/explosive vapors. This can cause explosion or fire, leading to property damage, serious personal injury, or death.
- DANGER: ALWAYS disconnect power to the pump before servicing.
- DANGER: Do not touch the motor housing during operation as it is designed to operate at high temperatures. Do not disassemble the motor housing.
- DANGER: Do not handle the pump or motor with wet hands, or when standing on a wet/damp surface or in water, before disconnecting power.
- WARNING: Wear safety goggles at all times when working with pumps.
- WARNING: The unit is designed for 115 volts (single phase), 60 Hz, with an approved 3-conductor cord and 3-prong grounded plug. Do not remove the ground pin. The 3-prong plug must be inserted into a properly installed and grounded 3-prong receptacle. Do not use with a 2-prong wall outlet; replace it with a properly grounded 3-prong receptacle installed according to the National Electrical Code and local codes/ordinances. All wiring must be performed by a qualified electrician.
- WARNING: Protect the electrical cord from sharp objects, hot surfaces, oil, and chemicals. Avoid kinking the cord and do not use damaged or worn cords.
- WARNING: Failure to comply with instructions may void the warranty. Attempting to use a damaged pump can result in property damage, serious personal injury, or death.
- WARNING: Release all pressure and drain all water from the system before servicing any component.
- WARNING: Secure the discharge line before starting the pump to prevent whipping, which could cause personal injury or property damage.
- WARNING: Ensure the electrical circuit is protected by a 10 Amp fuse or circuit breaker.
- WARNING: Extension cords are not recommended as they may not deliver sufficient voltage and present a safety hazard if insulation is damaged or connections fall into water. Plug the pump directly into an outlet.
- CAUTION: Do not lift the pump by the power cord.
- CAUTION: Know the pump's applications, limitations, and potential hazards.
- CAUTION: Secure the pump to a solid base to maintain vertical orientation for maximum efficiency and prevent clogging.
- CAUTION: Periodically inspect the pump and system components, ensuring the suction screen is free of mud, sand, and debris. Disconnect power before inspection.
- CAUTION: Follow all local electrical and safety codes, National Electrical Code (NEC), and OSHA guidelines.
- IMPORTANT: The motor has a thermal protector that trips if the motor overheats and resets once it cools down. The pump may start unexpectedly if plugged in.
- IMPORTANT: Ensure the electrical power source is adequate.
- IMPORTANT: Before use, check the hose for holes or wear, and ensure it is not kinked or sharply angled. Straight hoses allow maximum water movement. Ensure all hose connections are tight.
- IMPORTANT: The pump is made of high-strength, corrosion-resistant materials. Inadequate electrical power, dirt, or debris can cause failure. Read the manual carefully.
Installation:
- Always use the handle to lift the pump, never the power cord. Allow the pump to cool after extended use to avoid skin burns.
- Minimize pressure loss/maximize flow rate by using a larger inner diameter hose or by shortening the hose.
- Attach the adapter (B) to the pump outlet.
- Install the pump to the base (C).
- For a 3/4 in. garden hose, attach it to adapter (B), ensuring the connector has a rubber gasket to minimize leaks.
- For a 1-1/4 in. hose kit (not included), securely attach it to adapter (B) for quicker water removal.
- Unwind the garden hose completely to prevent kinks, which restrict priming.
- Place the pump on the pool cover or solid base.
- Plug the pump power plug into a 115V outlet, protected with a 10 AMP fuse or circuit breaker.
Airlock:
- This centrifugal utility pump cannot move air. If air is trapped (airlock), the pump cannot pump water even when submerged.
- The pump has an anti-airlock hole for air to flow out. If debris blocks this hole, unplug, reinstall, and restart the pump.
- If the pump is dropped into water, it may take a few minutes for air to squeeze out. Alternatively, drain the garden hose, keep the end out of water, and plug in the power cord to restart.
- CAUTION: The anti-airlock hole is for normal and necessary air/water leakage. DO NOT REMOVE OR BLOCK THIS HOLE!
Maintenance Features
Care and Cleaning:
- CAUTION: Always use the handle to lift the pump. Never use the power cord. Allow the pump to cool after extended use to avoid skin burns.
- CAUTION: When temperatures drop below freezing, remove the pump from service and store indoors to protect it from ice damage.
- Do: When power is disconnected, inspect pump inlets and remove all debris, then plug the pump back into the grounded outlet.
- Do Not: Disassemble the motor housing. The motor has no repairable internal parts, and disassembly may cause leakage or dangerous electrical wiring issues. Do not lift the pump by the power cord.
To Clean the Water Sensor Housing:
- NOTE: Unplug the power cord.
- Simple Clean: Put the pump upside down and flush the bottom of the filter base with clean water.
- Deep Clean Water Sensors and Impeller:
- Pull the snap fittings on the pump housing and remove the pump filter base.
- Pull the cap up along the pump housing.
- Clean debris and contamination around the sensor probes.
- To clean the pump clogged with debris:
- Remove screws (4) and take out the volute (3) from the pump.
- Clean debris on the impeller (1).
- Reassemble the volute (3), water sensor housing, sensor protection cap (6), and pump base (5).
Troubleshooting:
- Pump does not start:
- Possible Cause: Blown house fuse, low water level, contaminated probe sensors, GFCI tripped.
- Corrective Action: Replace fuse, allow water level to rise to 2 in. or more, clean probes, reset GFCI.
- Pump humming or low flow:
- Possible Cause: Impeller blocked, kinked/bent/coiled hose, airlock.
- Corrective Action: Clean impeller, straighten hose, clean anti-airlock hole or reinstall pump.
- Pump does not stop or starts and stops too often:
- Possible Cause: Contaminated probe sensors.
- Corrective Action: Clean probes.
