Overview

The Everbilt 1/4 HP Submersible Pool Cover Pump (Item # 1004181632, Model # EBAU25-PCP) is a utility pump designed primarily for removing water from swimming pool covers. Its automatic operation allows it to be left plugged in without constant monitoring, as it will shut off once the water has been removed. While ideal for pool covers, it can also be used for general water removal applications in flooded areas, window wells, low spots in yards, clogged sinks, water basins, boats, and stock tanks.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Power Supply: 115V, 60 Hz
  • Liquid Temperature Range: 32°F to 95°F (0°-35°C)
  • Individual Branch Circuit Required: 15 Amp Minimum
  • Discharge Connection: 1-1/4 in. Male NPT or 3/4 in. garden hose connection
  • Discharge Hose Needed: 1-1/4 in. Flexible Discharge Hose or 3/4 in. garden hose
  • Power Cord: SJTW, 18AWG/3C, 25 ft.
  • Performance (at 1-1/4 in. discharge):
    • 0 ft. of lift: 24 GPM
    • 5 ft. of lift: 22 GPM
    • 10 ft. of lift: 19 GPM
    • 15 ft. of lift: 14 GPM
    • 20 ft. of lift: 4 GPM
  • Max Lift: 21.5 ft.

Usage Features:

  • Automatic Operation: The pump features a float switch that activates when water reaches at least 2-1/4 inches around the pump and shuts off when water is pumped down to approximately 11/16 inches, running for an additional 30-60 seconds before stopping. This allows for hands-free operation.
  • Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) Plug: The pump is equipped with a GFCI plug for electrical safety. Users should check the GFCI if the pump is not running and reset it if tripped. It's recommended to connect the pump directly to a grounded outlet.
  • Versatile Discharge Options: The pump can connect to either a 1-1/4 inch flexible discharge hose for maximum flow rate or a standard 3/4 inch garden hose. For optimal performance, hose lengths should be kept as short as possible (50 ft. or less for garden hoses) to prevent flow restriction.
  • Pool Cover Base: The pump includes a pool cover base that helps stabilize it on the cover and allows for efficient water intake. This base can be removed for general water removal applications.
  • Thermal Protector: The motor has an automatic resetting thermal protector that turns the pump off if it becomes too hot. Overuse of this feature can damage the pump and void the warranty.
  • Corrosion-Resistant Materials: Constructed from high-strength, corrosion-resistant materials, the pump is designed for durability and long-term service.

Important Usage Warnings and Limitations:

  • Flammable Liquids: Never pump flammable or explosive liquids (e.g., gasoline, oil, kerosene, ethanol) or use in the presence of flammable vapors, as this can cause explosion or fire.
  • Electrical Safety: Always disconnect the pump from its power source before servicing. Do not handle the pump with wet hands or when standing on a wet or damp surface or in water while it is plugged in. Never touch any electrical device in water.
  • Grounding: The pump is supplied with a grounding conductor and a 3-prong grounding-type attachment plug. Do not remove the ground pin. Connect only to a properly grounded receptacle.
  • Extension Cords: If an extension cord is necessary, use a shorter, heavier gauge cord (16-gauge or thicker for a 25 ft. cord) to ensure sufficient voltage. Prevent the extension cord ends from getting wet. The GFCI plug will not protect against shock hazards from the extension cord itself.
  • Freezing Temperatures: Do not leave the pump plugged in and outside when freezing temperatures are expected, as this can damage the pump.
  • Damaged Pump: Do not attempt to use a damaged pump, as it can result in property damage, serious personal injury, and/or death.
  • Motor Housing: Do not disassemble the motor housing, as it contains no repairable internal parts, and disassembly will void the warranty and may cause dangerous electrical wiring issues.
  • Discharge Hose: Secure the discharge line before starting the pump to prevent it from whipping and causing injury or property damage. Do not suspend the pump by the discharge hose or power cord.
  • Pump Placement: Place the pump as straight as possible on the pool cover to ensure the float switch operates properly. Avoid coiling or kinking the hose.
  • Water Type: This pump is designed to pump rainwater from pool covers, not chlorinated pool water. It has not been tested or approved for use in swimming pools or salt-water marine areas.
  • Continuous Operation: Not engineered for continuous operation as a "fountain" or "waterfall" pump, or in any other water re-circulation process.
  • Sump Pump Replacement: Not intended to be used as a permanent sump pump.

Maintenance Features:

  • Debris Removal: Periodically inspect the pool cover base and pump intake screen (bottom of pump) and remove any debris. A clear path for water is crucial for optimal performance.
  • Cleaning Clogged Pump:
    1. Unplug the pump from electrical power.
    2. Remove the screws and pool cover base from the pump.
    3. Remove the screws and screen from the bottom of the pump.
    4. Remove the screws, volute, and seal gasket from the pump.
    5. Clean debris from the impeller and pool cover base.
    6. Reassemble the components.
  • Float Switch Maintenance: If debris prevents the float switch from operating, remove any debris from the float switch cage on the side of the pump. The bottom portion of this cage can be removed for further cleaning.
  • General Inspection: Periodically inspect the pump and system components to ensure the pump intake is free of mud, sand, and debris. Disconnect from power supply before inspecting.
  • Cord Protection: Protect the electrical cord from sharp objects, hot surfaces, oil, and chemicals. Avoid kinking the cord and do not use damaged or worn cords.
