8.2 ENGINE WILL NOT START.
a) Check that throttle control is midway between “slow” and “fast” positions, and choke
is in “on” position for a cold engine or “off” position for a warm engine.
b) Be sure there is fuel in the tank and that the fuel valve is open.
c) Operator must be in the seat.
d) Check that parking brake is set.
e) Be sure that the blades are disengaged.
f) Check that the spark plug wires are properly connected.
g) Look for loose or faulty wiring connections.
h) Check for corrosion at all wiring connections. Even minor corrosion may cause a
faulty connection. Clean connector terminals thoroughly and reconnect.
I) Check that the seat switch is properly adjusted. See Section 6.2.11.
j) Check that the parking brake switch is properly adjusted. See Section 6.2.9.
NOTE: After carefully checking the above steps, attempt to start the engine. If it
does not start, contact your authorized Exmark service dealer or distributor.
IMPORTANT: It is essential that all Operator Safety Mechanisms be connected and
in proper operating conditions prior to the use of the mower.
ENGINE TROUBLESHOOTING
When a problem occurs, do not overlook the simple causes. For example, starting
problems could be caused by an empty fuel tank. The following tables list some common
causes of troubles. Do not attempt to service or replace major items or any items that
call for special timing or adjustment procedures (governor, valves, etc.). Have this work
done by your Engine Service Dealer.
