6.1.4 TestingforOperationalConformance
Thegoalofthistestingistoassurethattheentiresystemwillregisterandproperlyreportthefollowing:
1. Deteriorationoftheimagequality(contrast,focus,brightness)
2. Communicationfailureofthecamera
3. Simulatedresponse
6.1.4.1 FaultCondition
Afaultconditioncanbetestedbysimplyapplyingthecaporcoveringthelensofthecamerawithyourhand.The
systemwillrespondbyreportingafaultinapprox30sec.
6.1.4.2 Communicationfailure/Analyticsfailure
Such conditions can be achieved by disconnecting the camera from the network switch. The fault relay will close
immediatelyandtheFikevideomanagementsoftwarewillreportalossofthecamerainlessthan10seconds.
6.1.4.3 Simulatedresponse
Therearefourwaysinwhichtotestwhethereventreportingisoperational.Theseshouldbediscussedbetweenthe
enduser,AHJ,anddistributorastowhichisapplicablefortheinstallation.
Thefirstmethodistotemporarilyintroduceamotiondetectionzoneandconfiguretherelaystocloseondetectionof
suchmotion.Introducingmotionintotheobservationareawillcauseaclosureoftherelayandanalarmresponsewill
propagate to the user interface. On completion of this test, the motion zone can be removed and the relay
disengaged. This scenario verifies that all camera functions are working properly and ensures that image capture,
software,andcommunicationarefunctioning.
Thesecondmethodistoinitiateauseralarmafterconfiguringtherelaystocloseontheuserinitiatedalarm.Thiswill
causeaclosureoftherelayandanalarmresponsewillpropagatetotheuserinterface.Oncompletionofthistestthe
useralarmcanbestoppedandtherelaycanbedisengaged.Thisscenarioensuresthatcommunicationsarefunctioning
andavisualinspectionofthevideoensuressoftwareintegrity.
Thethirdmethod is toinitiatelivefireswithinthecamerasfieldofview. Thiscanbedone usingsafesmoke(Regin
smokeemitters)andlowshooting flames (Isopropylalcoholorheptane)or a properlyconfiguredpropane torch(air
inletsmustbecoveredtocreateadiffusionflame).Theselivefiretestswillinitiateanalarmmuchlikeamotionoruser
eventandclosetherespectivedrycontactandsendanalarmresponsetotheuserinterface.
Thefinalmethodthatcan bearrangedistoswitchoutthecameraswith identically configureunitssendingone set
backtoourtestingfacilitytoundergothequalitycontrolprocessthatincludeslivefiretesting,avisualinspection,and
burninperiod.
6.1.5 Maintenance
Thissectiondealswithpreventivemaintenance,describespossiblefaultsincameraoperationandindicatescorrective
measures. Ignoring these instructions may cause problems with the detector and may invalidate the warranty.
Wheneveraunitrequiresservice,pleasecontactthemanufactureroritsauthorizeddistributorforassistance.
Maintenanceshouldbedoneonanannualbasis;however,camera(s)andassociatedequipmentthatareinaccessible
forsafetyconsiderations(e.g.continuousprocessoperations,energizedelectricalequipment,radiation,andexcessive
height) shall be maintained during scheduled shutdowns if approved by the authority having jurisdiction. These
extended intervals shall not exceed 18 months. The FVA‐IP camera is designed to provide years of trouble free
operationwithlittletonoattention;however,theperiodicmaintenancestepsdescribedbelowwillallowforreliable
fireandsecurityprotection.
