Spring-Return Actuators
The actuator output rotation is changed from counter-
clockwise to clockwise or vise versa by changing the
orientation of the rack and piston assemblies with re-
spect to the pinion. Refer to figures 4 and 5 and to the
Principle of Operation section for spring-return actua-
tors.
Perform the procedures listed below to change the
actuator output rotation. Key numbers referenced in
the following steps are shown in figure 11. Observe
the warning at the start of the Maintenance section.
1. Isolate the control valve from the line pressure, re-
lease pressure from both sides of the valve body, and
drain the process media from both sides of the valve.
If using a power actuator, also shut-off all pressure
lines to the power actuator, release all pressure from
the actuator. Use lock-out procedures to be sure that
the above measures stay in effect while you work on
the equipment. Remove the actuator from the valve.
2. Perform steps 6 through 9 of the spring-return ac-
tuator Disassembly procedure in the Maintenance sec-
tion. Observe the warning in the spring-return actuator
Disassembly procedure. Observe the orientation of the
rack and piston assemblies with respect to the pinion.
3. Change the orientation of the rack and piston as-
semblies with respect to the pinion. Pushing in on the
pistons must rotate the pinion in the opposite direction
from its direction of rotation before disassembly.
4. Perform the Assembling and Installing the Pistons
procedure in the Maintenance section.
5. Perform the Assembling and Installing the End
Caps on Spring-Return Actuators procedure in the
Maintenance section.
Parts Ordering
When replacement parts are required, always use
genuine Fisher Controls parts. Recommended spare
parts are identified in figures 10 and 11. These parts
are available as spare part kits from your Fisher Con-
trols sales office or sales representative.
When corresponding with the Fisher Controls sales
office or sales representative about this equipment
always mention the actuator model number and serial
number which are stamped on a metal tag secured to
the unit. Also, provide the key number and part dis-
cription from the tables in figures 10 and 11.
When ordering spare parts kits, always refer to this
model number and serial number.
