(1)
, 1125, 1370, 2585, and 4580 all
in double-acting and spring-return configurations.
Add a ‘‘D’’ to the model number to indicate a
double-acting actuator, and add an ‘‘S’’ to the model
number to indicate a spring-return actuator.
Operating Pressure
Maximum Allowable: 120 psig (8.6 bar) for all ac-
tuators except Model 4580D which has a maximum
allowable operating pressure of 100 psig (6.9 bar).
Minimum Recommended: Depends on torque re-
quired.
Material Temperature Capabilities
Standard with Nitrile O-Rings:–20 to 200F (–29
to 93C)
Optional with Fluoroelastomer O-Rings: 0 to
350F (–18 to 177C)
Maximum Valve Shaft Rotation
90 degrees with 3 degrees overtravel on each end.
Actuator pinion rotation can be limited with indepen-
dent, externally adjustable travel stops. Travel stops
are of sufficient size to absorb maximum torque
output.
Construction Materials
Body and End Caps: Hard anodized aluminum
with ceramic-like coating and two-part epoxy coat-
ing
Pistons: Aluminum
Pinion: Steel
Springs: Spring steel
Retractor Spring seats:
Models 280 and 1125:
Aluminum
All Other Models:
Steel
Bearings: Molybdenite-impregnated polymer
O-Rings:
Standard:
Nitrile
High Temperature:
Fluoroelastomer
Mounting Bracketry: Carbon steel
Pressure Port Connections
1/4 inch NPT female
Fail Action for Spring-Return Actuators
Depending on the position of the pistons within the
actuator, the actuator can be set for ‘‘fail open’’ or
‘‘fail closed’’ valve action (clockwise or counter-
clockwise rotation of actuator pinion, see figures 2
through 5)
Stroking Time
Dependent on actuator size, rotation, and positioner
if used. If stroking time is critical, consult your Fish-
er sales office or sales representative
Approximate Weights:
See table 2
1. The old model 425 and 680 actuators have different size square openings in the end of the pinion than the new model 425A and 680A actuators. The old dimension is 1.064 inches
(27 mm), and the new dimension is 0.866 inches (22 mm). It is shown as dimension “U” in Data Sheet BD841.
Description
Fisher Type 1032 rack-and-pinion rotary actuators
(see figure 1) are rugged, compact, and versatile units
that provide a reliable method of opening and closing
rotary valves.
Double-acting actuators require pressure to rotate the
valve in either direction. Spring-return actuators re-
quire pressure to rotate the valve in one direction only
and can be easily installed to open or close the valve
on loss of air pressure.
Installation
When an actuator and valve are shipped together, the
actuator is normally mounted on the valve. Follow the
valve instructions when installing the valve in the pipe-
line, and then perform the procedures presented in the
Loading Connections portion of this Installation sec-
tion. If the actuator is shipped separately or if it is nec-
essary to mount the actuator on the valve, perform the
procedures presented in the Actuator Mounting portion
of this section.
