MODIFIER TIPS AND TRICKS
The same source can be assigned to multiple modiers at the same time. For example, one
pedal can adjust Chorus Rate and Chorus Depth at the same time — even in different ways.
The modier menu is unique in that it will not allow you to change pages
unless Source 1 is set to something other than “NONE”.
The modiers for a given block will normally be shared across all of its channels,
but you can also limit a modier so it applies only to any one channel—your choice.
Change the “Channel” setting inside the modier menu to do so.
Remember that modiers use a small amount of CPU power while you
use them. Check any presets that are close to the edge.
All of the Internal Controllers (Tempo, LFOs, ADSRs, etc.) are part of the Controllers block. This block
has four channels, so you can have up to four different sets of Controller values in one preset.
Each block has a dedicated Bypass parameter, and this parameter allows you to assign a modier.
(“Bypass Mode” is not used as it was across the previous generation of Fractal Audio products.)
Scenes cannot change block parameters, but Scene Controllers can. Four different knobs can be used
with modiers to change the value of desired parameters. See the tutorial on p. 65 for more on this.
Auto-Engage allows a modier source like an expression pedal to simultaneously engage an effect and
adjust a parameter. It isn’t just for the wah however. Try it with a tremolo or rotary block and rate.
“The Golden Whammy” is a now-classic modier application where the very rst few degrees of
travel for an expression pedal change the Mix of a pitch block from 0 to 100, and the remainder
of the pedal’s travel operates a classic whammy effect. The transition is perfectly smooth with
no steps or jumps as the effect engages. You can study this in factory preset #88: JS410.
Internal Controllers are used as modier sources, but these also have many parameters of
their own which can be controlled by a modier. For example, one LFO can control the rate or
depth of another one. An Envelope can turn the Sequencer on or off. A Scene Controller can
cause an LFO to start or stop. The potential for creative effect processing is immense!
The switches of an FC controller can also be used as modier sources. For this to
work, you need to use the Control Switch function detailed in The Fractal Audio
Footswitch Functions Guide found at https://www.fractalaudio.com/fas-ffg
