4.2 IGNITION
The ignition of the machine must take place on
a flat surface with the chains having been rai-
sed.
WARNING
After ensuring that:
- the machine is in perfect working order;
- all guards are intact and in place;
- lubricants are at the right level;
- all parts subject to wear and tear, are in per-
fect working order, in particular, the state of
wear and tear of the tools.
By following the safety instructions in this ma-
nual and after consulting the instructions ope-
ration may begin.
After removing any unauthorized people from the
machine area, and having cordoned off the opera-
ting area, proceed with ignition in the following
way:
- Turn the power “ON” (10 Fig 7).
- Pull the “air” lever (1 Fig. 8), placed under the
engine air filter, particularly when the engine is
cold.
- Press and hold down the forward/reverse safety
lever (1 Fig. 7).
- Grasp the cord (9 fig. 7) Start the engine and pull
slowly until there is some resistance. Then, pull
with a strong and decisive jerk.
The engine is equipped with a pull starter with re-
coil that allows the rope to be pulled although once
the engine starts, it will disconnect so as to avoid
tearing and kickback for the operator.
- Release the rope and it will wind back. Should
the engine fail to start, repeat the operation.
After starting the engine, move the throttle lever (7
Fig. 7) halfway and run the engine for a few minu-
tes for it to warm up.
During the first few minutes of operation, do not
use the machine at maximum performance. Avoid
ill-treatment of the engine.
WARNING
After start-up, perform movements so as to
check the correct operation of each control.
Should any abnormalities be noticed, stop the
engine immediately and notify the safety
manager.
4.3 IN OPERATION
During operation, the forward/backwards sa-
fety lever (1 Fig. 7), must continue to be held
down as when it is released the machine stops
and cuts off the power supply instantly. If the
machine is equipped with a platform (11 Fig. 1)
the operator should be standing above it.
- After ignition, push the lever forward (3 Fig. 7),
lowering the overhead chains and bringing them a
few centimetres off the ground.
- Set the speed to SLOW by pushing the lever (2
Fig. 7).
- Activate the chain lever (6 Fig. 7) in the “on”
position. By doing this the rotary motion of the
chain is activated.
- Push the lever further forward (3 Fig. 7). At this
point the chain rotation goes into the ground and
excavation begins.
- With the chain in operation, pull the two levers
which control the motion of the crawler chains (4
and 5 Fig 7) simultaneously and gradually, back-
wards.
