Overview

The MERF 3.2 is a multifunctional programmable 3rd generation MOSFET designed as an AEG controller with 11 functions. It is suitable for all airsoft replicas, especially upgraded ones, and can handle powerful springs up to M170 and M210.

Function Description:

  • MOSFET: This core function directs energy from the battery directly to the motor, bypassing mechanical trigger contacts. This results in a higher rate of fire, faster trigger response, and protects the trigger contacts from burnout.
  • Active Brake (AB): In SEMI mode, the active brake prevents the piston from compressing after a shot, ensuring it stops in the front position. This eliminates unnecessary stresses, increasing the service life of the gearbox and its parts, particularly important for upgraded AEGs. It also provides immediate cessation of firing upon trigger release, enhancing realism and conserving ammunition.
  • Electronic Fuse: The device includes thermal protection and works in tandem with a time-lag fuse to fully protect the AEG installation.
  • Battery Protection (UVP Protection): The microprocessor constantly monitors battery voltage to prevent over-discharge of sensitive LiPoly batteries, thus extending their service life. If the voltage drops to a critical level, firing is prevented.
  • Over Temperature Protection: Protects the device from overheating.
  • Debouncing (Digital Interface): Ensures full compatibility with micro-switches and is resistant to contact bounce. This leads to a higher rate of fire, faster trigger response, and reduced MOSFET heating.
  • 3rd Gen MOSFET: Utilizes modern transistors and a microcontroller for a compact and reliable AEG controller.
  • ROF Control (Rate of Fire Control): Allows for lossless reduction of the rifle's rate of fire, enabling the use of stronger LiPo batteries while maintaining a realistic ROF.
  • Smart Trigger: Designed to achieve faster trigger response. It works with the ROF Control system by setting ROF Control to 100% for the first shot, then switching to a pre-programmed lower value (e.g., 30%) for subsequent shots. This delivers a full ROF for the initial shot and a reduced ROF for follow-up shots. Optimal results are achieved with higher voltage batteries.
  • 3rd Burst Mode: Enables firing in 3-shot series, conserving ammunition and increasing realism. This mode can be set for AUTO or SEMI* modes. If the trigger is released early in SAFE/SEMI/BURST mode, one or two shots can still be fired. The burst time is adjustable with 4ms accuracy, and the processor compensates for changes in burst time due to battery discharge. (*SEMI to BURST is available in enhanced mode only.)
  • Configurable Fire Selector: Offers five programmable fire selector modes:
    • STOCK WIRING SEMI/AUTO
    • STOCK WIRING SEMI/BURST
    • MODIFIED WIRING SEMI/AUTO
    • MODIFIED WIRING SEMI/BURST
    • MODIFIED WIRING BURST/AUTO
  • Plug&Play: Supports two operating modes:
    • Plug&Play: Simple connection between the battery and the rifle.
    • Enhanced Mode: Requires modification of the AEG installation, connecting trigger contacts to the MERF 3.2 using the provided signal wire.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Operating Voltage: 3.2 - 15V
  • Battery Voltage (Recommended): 7.2 - 12.8V
  • Battery Type (Supported): NiCd, NiMH, Li-ion, Li-Poly, LiFePO4
  • Spring Compatibility: M170, M210
  • Maximum Continuous Current: 35A
  • Maximum Current (3 min): 50A

  • Current Consumption in Stand-by: Very low (0.15mA)
  • GearBox Compatibility: Compatible with all types of GearBox
  • Display: 4 LED Display
  • Connectors: DEANS-T Connectors

Usage Features:

  • Installation:
    • Simple Installation (Plug&Play): Connects between the battery and the AEG without requiring modifications to the AEG's internal wiring. Configuration is done via the programming button.
    • Enhanced Installation: Requires access to the trigger contacts. For GB v2, contacts are inside the gearbox; for GB v3, they are outside. It can be installed without replacing original wires (by modifying connections) or with a complete re-wiring using 16 AWG or thicker low-resistance wires for ultimate efficiency.
  • Programming Mode: Activated by connecting the battery while the programming button is pressed (for incorrect configuration), or by quickly pressing the button (simple installation), or by disconnecting the motor and quickly pressing the button or trigger (enhanced installation). The MERF 3.2 recognizes long and short button presses for navigation.
  • Menu Navigation:
    • Quick presses cycle through main functions.
    • Press and hold (approx. 1 second) to enter a function.
    • Within a function menu, quick presses cycle through settings.
    • Press and hold (approx. 1 second) to select a setting.
    • Press and hold again to return to the Key Functions Menu.
  • LED Display Legend:
    • Green LEDs ON: Show FUNCTION.
    • Orange LEDs ON: Show OPTION.
    • LEDs blinking at the same time: Indicate a specific state.
    • LEDs blinking alternately: Indicate another specific state.
  • Burst Time Setting: Offers 64 settings for burst time.
    • Settings up to 192ms in the Approximate Burst Time Menu can be adjusted by 4ms increments in the Precise Burst Time Menu.
    • Settings from 224ms to 416ms in the Approximate Burst Time Menu can be adjusted by 8ms increments in the Precise Burst Time Menu.
    • Setting by Hearing: A practical method involving setting an approximate burst time, reducing it until two shots are fired, then increasing it incrementally until three shots are consistently fired, ensuring the piston stops in the front position without gearbox stress.
    • Setting by ROF (if known): Use the formula Burst Time [ms] = 3000 / ROF rps to calculate the precise burst time.
  • Factory Settings: The device can be restored to its original settings (NiCd 7.2V, ROF 100%, Smart Trigger OFF, Approximate Burst Time 288ms, Precise Burst Time +0ms, Operating Mode ENHANCED MODE SEMI/AUTO).
