Fault Possible cause Fault clearance
Control medium escapes from the
actuator vent hole
(see sectional drawing chapter 11)
Control piston or lip ring damaged Replace actuator and check control
medium for impurities
Control medium
escapes from the relief
bore hole in the pipe (see sectional
drawing chapter 11)
Spindle sealing leaky Replace actuator and check control
medium for impurities
Medium escapes from the relief bore
hole in the pipe (see sectional drawing
chapter 11)
Gland packing faulty Replace actuator
Valve doesn't open or doesn't open fully Control pressure too low Set control pressure in accordance with
data sheet. Check pilot valve and
replace if necessary
Control medium not connected
Connect control medium
Control piston or spindle sealing leaky
Replace actuator and check control
medium for impurities
Stroke limiter incorrectly adjusted Adjust stroke limiter correctly
Valve leaks downstream (doesn't close
or doesn't close fully)
Operating pressure too high Operate valve at operating pressure in
accordance with data sheet
Foreign matter between shut-off seal
and seat
Disassemble actuator (chapter 10.1), re-
move foreign matter, check shut-off seal
for damage and replace if necessary
Valve body leaky or damaged
Check valve body and replace if necessary
Shut-off seal faulty Check shut-off seal for damage and
replace if necessary

Valve leaks between the actuator and
the valve body
Union nut loose Tighten union nut
Gasket faulty Check gasket and the respective sealing
surfaces for damage and replace parts if
necessary
Valve body connection to piping leaks Incorrect installation Check installation of valve body in piping
Valve body leaks Valve body leaks or is corroded Check valve body for damage and
replace valve body if necessary

10 Assembly / disassembly
of spare parts
See chapter “preparation for all work“
10.1 Actuator disassembly
1. Move actuator (A) to the open position.
2. Loosen union nut (a).
3.
Disassemble actuator (A) from valve body (1).
4. Remove gasket (4).
5. Clean all parts of the remains of product
and contamination. Do not scratch or
damage parts during cleaning
6. Check all parts for potential damage.
Replace damaged parts
(only use genuine parts from GEMÜ).
7. Move actuator (A) to the closed position.
10.2 Replacement of
shut-off seal
1. Disassemble actuator (A) as described in
chapter 10.1, items 1-4.
2. Unscrew the disc from the spindle
(hold the valve plug (arrows) with suitable
pliers). Do not damage the spindle!
Remove shut-off seal (14).
3. Clean all parts of the remains of product
and contamination parts. Do not scratch
or damage the parts during cleaning.
4. Insert new shut-off seal (14).
5. Screw in the disc. Use suitable pliers to
prevent the spindle from turning when
screwing in the disc. Do not damage the
spindle!
6. Assemble actuator (A) as described in
