      If the Gendex Scanner does not initialize when the software is opened, first, ensure the scanner is turned on and the green power indicator light is on. If not, switch on the scanner. Next, verify that the lid on the carousel well is closed. Check the USB 2.0 cable between the scanner and computer to ensure it is not loose or defective; reconnect it or swap with a known good cable. If the computer doesn't recognize the scanner, turn off the scanner and reinstall the systems software driver, then turn the unit on.

      If you find that the lid of your Gendex Scanner is locked, and the system is scanning, wait for scanning to end before attempting to open the lid. Do not override the locking mechanism during scanning. If there is a power failure or lack of power, unplug the scanner from the power source, then slide a thin tool or credit card into the gap between the lid and the scanner housing to depress the lock. You can then remove the carousel.

      If your Gendex Scanner image contains ghost images or shadows, it might be because the imaging plate was not completely erased. Try increasing the amount of time used to erase plates or increase the intensity of the light source. To test if an imaging plate is completely erased, mount an erased plate on a carousel and scan it; if no image is obtained, your procedure is effective. Also, ensure the imaging plates are inserted properly into the barrier envelope and the proper orientation to the X-ray source is maintained. Do not store imaging plates in barrier envelopes for more than one week. Do not leave exposed imaging plates in well-lit areas, and transfer them from their protective barriers to the scanner as quickly as possible using the Dark Box (within one hour of exposure).

      If the image from your Gendex Scanner shows artifacts, it could be due to a dirty or scratched imaging plate surface. Clean the imaging plate. If the plate is scratched or stained, do not use the plate again. Static discharge from removing the imaging plate from the panoramic cassette too quickly can also cause artifacts, so clean the imaging plate with anhydrous isopropyl alcohol and remove it from the cassette more slowly. Ensure the barrier envelopes are sealed properly after removing the adhesive strip. Practice loading erased imaging plates until you become familiar with the loading procedure. Replace broken clips, if extraoral plates don't stay on the carousel during scanning.
