GMC Terrain/Terrain Denali Owner Manual (GMNA-Localizing-U.S./Canada/Mexico-18552429) - 2025
Driving and Operating 157
Defensive drivers avoid most skids by taking
r
e
asonable care suited to existing conditions,
and by not exceeding those conditions. But
skids are always possible.
If the vehicle starts to skid, follow
these suggestions:
Ease your foot off the accelerator pedal
and steer the way you want the vehicle to
go. The vehicle may straighten out, but if
it skids again from oversteer, be ready to
correct another skid if it occurs.
Slow down and adjust your driving
according to weather conditions. Stopping
distance may be longer and vehicle control
may be affected when traction is reduced
by water, snow, ice, gravel, or other
material on the road. Learn to recognize
warning cluessuch as enough water,
ice, or packed snow on the road to make
amirrored surface — and slow down when
you have any doubt.
Try to avoid sudden steering, acceleration,
or braking, including reducing vehicle
speed by shifting to alower gear. Any
sudden changes could cause the tires
to slide.
Off-Road Driving
{ Warning
T
his vehicle is neither rated nor equipped
fo
r full off-road use. Attempting to drive in
off-road conditions may be unsafe and can
result in vehicle damage or personal injury.
If equipped with all-wheel drive (AWD), this
ve
hicle may be used for light recreational
driving away from paved roads. It should not be
used in off-road conditions, as the AWD system
is not the same as a traditional 4x4 system. See
All-Wheel Drive 3174.
This vehicle is equipped with all-season tires.
Vehicles that are not equipped with all-terrain
or On-Off Road (OOR) tires must not be driven
off-road except on alevel, solid surface.
Preparing to Drive Away from
Paved Roads
Fuel the vehicle, fill fluid levels, and check
inflation pressure in all tires, including the
spare, if equipped.
Select Off-Road on the Driver Mode Control
3179 switch.
Driving Guidelines
Us
e only established trails, roads, and
areas that are reserved for public off-
road recreational driving. Obey all posted
regulations. Do not damage shrubs, flowers,
trees, grasses, or disturb wildlife.
Do not drive up or down off-road inclines in this
vehicle. Do not drive through mud, loose sand,
packed snow, or deep water. This vehicle is not
equipped to handle these conditions.
After Driving Away from Paved Roads
Be sure to switch out of Off-Road mode to
return to normal driving. See Driver Mode
Control 3179.
Driving on Wet Roads
Rain and wet roads can reduce vehicle traction
and affect your ability to stop and accelerate.
Always drive slower in these types of driving
conditions and avoid driving through large
puddles and deep-standing or flowing water.
