1
Draw a plan for an IRF
fabric with switches
Take the following into consideration:
Number of IRF members and the bandwidth
Interface cards and cables
Physical connection mode( daisy chain connection or ring connection)
Cable connection
For more information, see Drawing a plan for an IRF fabric.
2
Install the IRF members
to the correct position
For detailed installation procedures, see:
Installing the switch into a 19-inch rack.
Mounting the switch on a workbench.
3
Connect grounding
cables and power
cords for the switches
For more information, see:
Grounding the switch
Connecting the power cords
4
Power on the IRF

5 Install interface cards For more information, see Installing and removing an interface card.
6
Configure software for
the IRF members
For more information about the IRF function, see H3C S5120-EI Series
Ethernet Switches IRF Configuration Guide.
7 Power off the switches N/A
8 Connect the cables
Use cables to connect 10 G ports of the interface cards:
The given XFP ports work with XFP optical transceivers and fibers
The given SFP+ ports can work with SFP+ optical transceivers and fibers
for long-haul transmission; or they can be directly connected through
dedicated SFP+ cables for short-haul transmission
The given CX4 ports use dedicated CX4 cables for connection
The given 1/10GBase-T Ethernet ports use Category 6 or later
twisted-pair cables for connection
For how to connect the cables, see Installing and removing a dedicated
C
X4/SFP+ cable.

Drawing a plan for an IRF fabric
Before implementing an IRF fabric, draw a plan according to actual conditions of the user network and
network devices and take the following points into consideration:
Determine the number of IRF members and the bandwidth
You can determine the number of IRF members and the bandwidth according to the network scale.
The S5120-EI Switch Series supports aggregation of the 10 GE ports. You can assign the two 10 GE ports
of an interface card to an aggregation group to expand the bandwidth for the IRF fabric.
NOTE:
10 GE ports of different interface cards cannot join the same aggregation group in the IRF fabric.
Therefore, 1-port XFP interface cards do not support port aggregation in the IRF fabric.
