Precaution!
The Powder Coating paint process has become the
most common widely used application in the outdoor
furniture category. Unfortunately powder coating is
extremely sensitive to Humidity and Moisture. A
simple process to protect your furniture, especially
flat surfaces is to apply a simple coat of good quality
car wax prior to using. If this process is done every
few months it will protect your furniture for years
to come.

Overview

This document is the owner's manual for an Outdoor Patio Heater, model # NG-GT-BRZ, designed for natural gas use. It provides comprehensive instructions for assembly, operation, maintenance, and safety.

Function Description:

The Hiland Outdoor Patio Heater is a gas-fired infrared patio heater designed for outdoor use only. Its primary function is to provide warmth in outdoor spaces. The heater utilizes natural gas as fuel and features a glass tube design, allowing the flame to be visible, which adds to its aesthetic appeal. It is equipped with a pilot light for safer startups and shutdowns and a variable control knob to adjust the heat level. The appliance is intended for use in well-ventilated outdoor areas, such as patios, and is not suitable for enclosed spaces like campers, tents, cars, or homes due to the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Model Number: NG-GT-BRZ
  • Fuel Type: Natural Gas (Natural gas only)
  • Certification: CSA/ANSI Z83.26 :20 • CSA 2.37:20 Gas-fired outdoor infrared patio heaters
  • Minimum Supply Pressure: 7 W.C. (for input adjustment)
  • Minimum Clearances from Combustible Materials: 36 inches (91 cm) from sides and 36 inches (91 cm) from the top.
  • Altitude Restriction: Installation at altitudes above 2000 ft (610 m) must comply with local codes, or ANSI Z223.1/NFPA 54 or CSA B149.1.
  • Battery: Requires one AA Battery (1.5 V) for the igniter.
  • Wind Velocity: Optimal operation is below 10 mph. Reduced efficiency below 40°F.

Usage Features:

  • Outdoor Use Only: Strictly prohibited for indoor use to prevent carbon monoxide hazard.
  • Pilot Light System: Features a pilot light for controlled ignition of the main burner. The pilot must be lit before the main burner can be started.
  • Variable Heat Control: A control knob allows users to adjust the heat output from "LOW" to "HIGH."
  • Ignition: Equipped with an igniter button for easy startup. Manual lighting with a long stem lighter is also an option if the igniter fails.
  • Safety Shut-off: The control knob cannot be turned to the "OFF" position without first depressing it in the "PILOT" position, ensuring a controlled shutdown.
  • Leak Check Procedure: A detailed procedure using soapy water is provided to check for gas leaks at all connections before initial use and whenever gas connections are loosened or removed.
  • Flame Appearance: Normal flame should be blue with straight yellow tops. Excessive yellow flame indicates a potential problem.
  • Flame Height Indicators: In normal conditions, the flame height is approximately 2/3 of the glass tube in "HIGH" position and 1/3 in "LOW" position, with a stable and bright flame, free from noise or black smoke.
  • Mobility: Includes a wheel assembly for easier movement.
  • Enclosure Guidelines: Can be installed with shelter, provided it meets specific ventilation criteria:
    • Walls on all sides, but no overhead cover.
    • Partial enclosure with an overhead cover and no more than two side walls (parallel or at right angles).
    • Partial enclosure with an overhead cover and three side walls, provided 30% or more of the horizontal periphery is permanently open.

Maintenance Features:

  • Regular Inspection: The heater should be inspected before each use and annually by a qualified service person. More frequent cleaning may be required.
  • Cleaning:
    • Exterior surfaces should be cleaned with warm soapy water. Flammable or corrosive cleaning agents should not be used.
    • The area around the burner and pilot assembly must be kept dry.
    • The control compartment, burners, and circulating air passageways must be kept clean and free from combustible materials, gasoline, flammable vapors, liquids, and debris.
    • Ventilation openings of the cylinder enclosure must be kept clear.
    • Burner holes should be cleaned with a heavy-duty pipe cleaner or compressed air to remove spiders and insects.
    • The reflector and burner screen should be cleaned to remove dirt or film.
    • The glass tube should be washed and cleared if carbon deposits create a fire hazard.
  • Hose Assembly Inspection: The hose assembly should be inspected annually for abrasion, cuts, or wear. Suspected areas should be leak tested, and a leaking hose must be replaced with the manufacturer-specified assembly.
  • Pressure Regulator and Hose Assembly: Only the supplied pressure regulator and hose assembly must be used, and replacements must be manufacturer-specified.
  • Corrosion Prevention: In salt-air environments, frequent checks for corroded areas and prompt repairs are necessary. High-quality automobile wax can be applied to exterior surfaces (from the upper support down) to maintain appearance, but not to the emitter screen or domes.
  • Storage:
    • Between uses: Turn control knob OFF, disconnect the propane cylinder, and store upright in an area sheltered from inclement weather. Covering the heater is recommended to protect exterior surfaces and prevent build-up in air passages.
    • During extended inactivity or transport: Turn control knob OFF, disconnect the propane cylinder, move it to a secure, well-ventilated outdoor location, and store the heater upright in a sheltered area. Do not expose the propane cylinder to direct sunlight or excessive heat.
  • Cooling Period: Always allow the heater to cool completely (approximately 45 minutes) before touching, moving, or covering it.
  • Professional Service: Only a qualified service person should repair gas passages and associated components.
