Overview

The HIMOINSA M1 control unit is a compact, black, 66 x 66 x 85 mm device designed for panel mounting, made from aluminum and fireproof polyamide 6 (Class V0). It functions as a protection and start-up control unit for diesel engines, managing both manual and automatic (via free voltage contact) engine starts, and safeguarding against malfunctions during operation. Its core is an electronic circuit based on a microcontroller.

Function Description:

The M1 control unit provides comprehensive engine protection and operational control. It allows for manual or automatic engine start-up and monitors various parameters to ensure safe operation. Key protections include fuel reserve, battery charging failure, high engine coolant temperature, low oil pressure, and over-frequency (overspeeding). It also features an auxiliary input with an alarm indicator light. All outputs are designed to be short-circuit proof, and quick connect terminals facilitate easy wiring.

    • Low level input voltage: 1V
    • High level input voltage: 5V
    • Low level input current: 2-2.5mA
    • High level input current: 0-100µA
  • Pick-Up / Generator Input Sensor Characteristics:
    • Pick-Up input voltage: 4-30VDC
    • Pick-Up input frequency: 200-8000 Hz (typical 2500 Hz)
    • Generator input voltage: 180-480 VAC
    • Generator input frequency: 45-66 Hz
  • PNP Output Characteristics (ARR, PR, PC):
    • Output voltage: +BAT
    • Output current (T=1s): 40A
    • Output current (T=10s): 20A
    • Output current (T=∞): 15A

    • Output voltage: +BAT
    • Output current: 1A
    • Output resistance D+: 49.5 Ω
  • Environmental Conditions:
    • Operating temperature: -40°C to +85°C
    • Relative humidity: 80% (no condensation)
    • IP Degree of Protection: IP65 (front, with sealing gasket)

Usage Features:

The front panel includes a button for power on/off, a reset button, and a knob to select between MANUAL, STOP, or AUTOMATIC modes. It also features 14 indicator lights for various statuses and alarms.

  • Operating Modes:
    • STOP Mode: Shuts down the generator set in a controlled manner.
    • MANUAL Mode: Engine start-up and shutdown are controlled via the Start/Stop button. Includes preheating and cooling cycles if configured. Engine protection devices are always active.
    • AUTOMATIC Mode: Start-up is triggered by the closure of a free voltage contact (LT). The controller manages a configured number of retries if the engine doesn't start immediately. When the contact opens, the controller orders a stop.
  • Overspeed Protection: Can be activated and programmed by running the genset at its rated frequency and pressing the reset button for 5 seconds. This memorizes the engine speed and enables overspeed detection. It can be disabled by pressing the reset button for 5 seconds when the engine is stopped.
  • Configuration: The unit can be configured via a USB port connected to a PC, allowing for advanced programming of parameters such as preheating time, cooling down time, overspeed activation, and engine start/stop detection methods. Additionally, 8 micro switches at the back allow for manual configuration of operation, including long preheating, frequency detection by Pick-Up, engine shutdown by fuel reserve, preheating/cooling enabling, D+ start-up detection, and engine type configuration.
  • Alarm Output: Activated when an abnormality is detected, remaining active until reset or control unit is turned off (if parameter is set to zero).
  • Polarity Configuration: The polarity of inputs (BPA, ATA, AUX, LT, RC) can be configured, allowing activation at high or low levels.

Maintenance Features:

  • USB Port: Facilitates programming, consulting the alarms log, and reading total and partial hour meters.
  • Quick Connect Terminals: Simplify wiring connections.
  • Installation: The control unit should be mounted at the front of an electrical panel, preferably in the center for easy wiring. No special ventilation is required due to low power consumption.
  • Safety: All outputs must be provided with inductive current disconnection devices (diodes, varistors, RC filters). Wiring for maneuvers should be kept at a sufficient distance from high electric fields. The equipment is rated CAT III 600V, and disconnection means must be incorporated into the fixed installation. The negative terminal of the battery, the chassis of the electrical panel, and the generator set chassis must all be earthed. Installation must be performed by qualified personnel due to potential risks.
