Inboard bearing retaining rings are intended to remain
in the housing. Where removal is essential bearing bore
damage can be avoided by locating a precision
screwdriver under the angled end of the ring to lift it out
of the groove. Then use a rotary motion until the 1

coils of the ring come clear of the groove.
When removal is essential, it is acceptable to replace
proprietary rings with equivalent circlips.
Replacement of the original type of spring ring can be
accomplished by pre-compressing the rings into a thin
walled tube with an external diameter equal to
minumum bearing bore size. Place the tube through the
bearing bore with the end face adjacent to a ring
groove. Push the spring ring out of the end of the tube
to allow it to expand into its location.
Note
If these stick in position use a screwdriver inserted at
turbine end to dislodge.
Warning
Always wear safety glasses when removing or
inserting retaining rings.
