These

thesizer. The
30 to
60
MHz
V
CO
in
the
A14
assem
bly
generates the
stable LO
frequencies
for
fundamen
tal
and
harmonic
mixing.

Reference
This
assem
bly
pro
vides
stable
reference
frequencies
to
the
rest
of
the
instrument
by
dividing
do
wn
the
output
of a
40 MHz
crystal oscillator.
In
lo
w
band
op
eration,
the
output
of
the
fractional-N
syn
thesizer
is
mixed
do
wn
in
the
A12
reference
assem
bly
.

2nd
LO
signal
from
the
A12
assem
bly
is
explained
in
Receiv
er
Theory
.) The
A12 is
also the
origin
of
the
sup
er
lo
w
band p
ortion of
the
8753D
source.

Pulse
Generator
A
step
recov
ery dio
de in
the pulse
generator
pro
duces
a
com
b
of
harmonic
m
ultiples
of
the
V
CO
output.
These
harmonics
pro
vide
the
high
band
LO
(lo cal
oscillator) input
to
the
samplers.
In

w
band
and
sup
er
lo
w
band
the
op
eration
the
pulse
generator
is
turned o.

Phase
Lock
This
assembly
compares
the
rst
IF
(deriv
ed
from
the
source
output
in
the
A4
sampler)
to
a
stable
reference,
and
generates
an
error
v
oltage
that
is in
tegrated
in
to
the
driv
e
for
the
A3
source
assem
bly
.
A3
Source
This
assem
bly includes
a3.0
to 6.8
GHz YIG
oscillator
and
a
3.8
GHz
ca
vit
y
oscillator.
The
outputs
of
these
oscillators are
mixed to
pro duce
the
RF
output
signal.
In
Option
006
(30
kHz
to
6
GHz)
the
frequencies
3.0
to
6.0
GHz
are no
longer a
mixed pro
duct, but
are
the
direct
output
of
the
YIG
Oscillator.
The
signal
trac
ks
the
stable
output
of
the
syn
thesizer.
The
ALC (automatic
leveling
control)
circuitry is
also in
the
A3
assem
bly
.
