Removal and Replacement Procedures— Desktop (DT) Chassis
Extra guide screws are provided on the chassis basepan, under the front bezel. Hard drives use
#6-32 standard screws. All other drives use M3 metric screws. The HP-supplied metric screws
are black. The HP-supplied standard screws are silver.
7. Insert the hard drive into the bay from the front of the chassis. Push it in until it locks into
place.

CAUTION: Make sure the guide screws line up with the guide slots in the drive cage. The use of
unnecesary force when installing any drive into the drive bay may result in damage to the drive.
8. Connect the data and power cables to the hard drive.
Refer to Chapter 4, “Serial and Parallel ATA Drive Guidelines and Features, for information on
attaching the cabling to get optimum performance.
9. Replace the front bezel (Section 8.6, “Front Bezel”).
10. Replace the computer cover (Section 8.5, “Computer Cover”)
11. If you normally lock the Smart Cover Lock, use Computer Setup to relock the lock and
enable the Smart Cover Sensor.
