Download the latest MSA 1040/MSA 2040/2042 storage controller firmware:
a. Go to hpe.com/support/storage.
b. Click Disk Storage Systems.
c. Click MSA Storage MSA Storage.
d. Select HPE MSA 1040 SAN Storage, HPE MSA 2040 SAN Storage, or HPE MSA 2042 SAN Storage.
e. Under Download options, click Drivers, software & firmware.
f. Select your product, and then from the drop-down menu, select your operating system.
g. Click the + to expand the Firmware Storage Controller table.
h. In the Description column of the table, click the title of the firmware. To download the firmware, click Download.
[fc] Record the Worldwide Names (WWNs) of the Fibre Channel ports on the controller of the existing storage system. You can find this in
the SMU under Physical. Then click Enclosure 1 Rear Graphical and click the Fibre Channel ports, as shown in Figure 3. The WWN
[fc] Record Fibre Channel WWN IDs, Names (nicknames), and profile settings of the Fibre Channel HBAs you will be using to connect to
the storage system, if any. The WWN IDs/Names are listed under the Host ID property in the SMU. You can find this from the SMU by
expanding Hosts from the Configuration View frame. (See Figure 4).
[fc] Record Fibre Channel link speeds and topology settings. You can find this from the SMU by selecting Configuration System
Settings Host Interfaces. (See Figure 5).
[i] Record the IP addresses of the controller iSCSI ports. You can find this from the SMU by selecting Configuration System Settings
Host Interfaces.
[i] Record any port IQN host IDs and names (nicknames) that were given for hosts (ensure that you capture all nicknames for all hosts).
You can find this from the SMU by selecting Hosts View Overview.
[sa] Record any SAS host nicknames. You can find this from the SMU by selecting Hosts from the configuration view panel, and then
selecting View Overview.
[i] Record iSNS information. You can find this from the SMU by selecting Configuration System Settings Host Interfaces.
[i] Record existing CHAP information. You can find this from the SMU by selecting Hosts Provisioning Configure CHAP.
Note
IQN names will no longer be applicable if you upgrade to the Fibre Channel or SAS protocol controller. The IQN host IDs and names will be
applicable if you choose to upgrade to the iSCSI protocol controller and to use the iSCSI targets of the new controller. Similarly, recording
Fibre Channel and SAS WWNs, nicknames, and speeds are only valid if you are moving to an MSA 1040 two-port 8Gb Fibre Channel, MSA
1040 two-port SAS, MSA 2040/2042 SAN (Fibre Channel or mixed Fibre Channel/iSCSI), or an MSA 2040/2042 SAS.
