HPE MSA 2040 controller hardware overview
The HPE MSA 2040 controller can support both LFF 12-drive or SFF 24-drive storage enclosures.
Note
The HPE MSA 2040 storage systems support eight total enclosures, including the storage enclosure, for a maximum of 199 SFF drives or
96 LFF drives. Mixed LFF and SFF enclosures are supported; refer to the following table for the maximum LFF and SFF drive configurations
for each controller enclosure. Note that mixing LFF and SFF expansion enclosures yields values in between those shown. Refer to Table 1 for
the maximum LFF and SFF drive configurations per controller enclosure for the MSA 2040 storage system.
HPE MSA 2040 features
HPE MSA 2040 storage systems are high-performance storage solutions that combine performance with high reliability, availability,
flexibility, and manageability. MSA 2040 solutions support the following features:
Upgraded controller architecture and processor
6 GB cache per controller (data read/write cache = 4 GB and metadata and system operating system memory = 2 GB)
Support for SFF and LFF SSDs
Full disk encryption
Four host ports per controller
4 Gb/8 Gb/16 Gb Fibre Channel connectivity
6 Gb/12 Gb SAS connectivity
1 GbE or 10 GbE iSCSI connectivity
Support for both Fibre Channel and iSCSI in a single controller
Support for up to eight disk enclosures including the array enclosure
Support for up to 199 SFF drives and 96 LFF drives
Increased I/O performance

With GL200 and later firmware. Creation of an SSD virtual disk group for both read and write capabilities requires a Performance Auto Tiering License (D4T79A/D4T79AAE)
for the MSA 1040 and an Advanced Virtualized Upgrade License (D4T78A/D4T78AAE).
